1963 2016 IHYC FLOATING FRIEND-”SHIPS” FOR 53 YEARS Volume 53 Issue 12 December 2016 The Commodore's Comments Commodore Captain Ken Burgio This month we will be holding our elections for the 2017 Bridge and Board of Directors. Please make sure that you attend this month’s general membership meeting and cast your votes. The IHYC chefs will be putting on the traditional food spread. This is my 48th and final article, and as your Commodore I would like to thank everyone who has helped me through not only the last 4 years but also the 3 years prior as a Director. In that time a lot of transformations have happened at the club. Twenty-first century membership cards, new members, Cotter rides, concrete repairs, stone in the parking lot, clubhouse ceiling project, website upkeep, front foyer renovations, playground, new club events, and the first women members are just to name a few. I want to thank the membership for their dedication and hard work that goes into the making of OUR club. I have to say I am very proud to have been a part of these noteworthy improvements to the club. I am grateful for the opportunity to have worked with such a dedicated group of people who really want what is best for the club and its membership. I fly my IHYC burgee with great pride. As January approaches, I get to pass the gavel on to Commodore Jamie Schmitt. I wish him and the newly Officers Articles elected Bridge and Board of Auxiliary News Directors smooth cruising. To the members, please make sure you get to the December meeting and vote! With the boating season officially over, 2016 is now coming to a close. The boats are all wrapped up and the holidays are coming fast! Bah Humbug!! Just kidding… we obviously enjoy our summers more than the impending winter, but I am looking forward to the holidays with our friends and families, and wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! As this is my last newsletter as the Vice Commodore, I would like to thank everybody for helping IHYC and myself for throwing another great Commodore’s Ball. A special thanks to George Schieder for hosting, Joe Riccio for the extra help and keeping me in order, and to Teresa for all of her help. A big thanks to everyone for helping me out in being the Vice Commodore this year and all of the “duties” it entails. NEWS FROM THE REAR Commodore—Daniel Bright Thank you all so much, The Vice: Jamie Schmitt . As the boating season has ended and the holidays begin, this doesn't mean that the fun at IHYC has to stop. Please keep in mind Friday bar-nites, dart-nite, monthly fish-frys and in the coming year we will welcome a new Commodore. The invitations for the January 14th Dinner and Installation of Bridge Officers will be mailed early December. Please mark you calendar and plan on attending this event to honor the 2017 Commodore - Jamie Schmitt and his Bridge. During the November meeting an application for membership was voted on by the membership in attendance and approved. Please welcome Jim Perusich and his first-mate Doreen. Our membership currently stands at 92. Finally, if you attend only one meeting a year, December would be a good one. Your new Bridge and Directors will be finalized and voted on. Helping to Make America Great, R/C Dan Bright page 2 . INNER HARBOR NEWS December 2016 From the Fleet Captain Jeremy Schmitt 2016 has come to an end, and I have completed my term as Fleet Captain. There were many tasks some of which were a challenge for me, others not so much. All in all my year as Fleet Captain was a lot of fun! I've learned a lot about boating, the club, and its members. I could not have made it through the year without the help of my predecessor Dan Bright and the other fleets before him. Also a special shoutout to my Fleet Mates Becky Ensminger and Amanda Butcher. Thank you all! PAGE 3 and trophy presentation. Please remember to bring canned goods so that we can help the less fortunate enjoy a holiday meal. Lastly, we will have the ugly Christmas sweater party Saturday, the 16th of December. I'm looking forward to seeing all of our members at these events! I would like to wish everyone a joyous holiday season and wish Fleet Captain “Liberator” Dave Herbold the best of luck in 2017. Fleet Captain, Jeremy Schmitt As the holiday season approaches, the crazy weather ensues with warm days in the 60's followed days later by snow. Nobody likes the snow, but without it it would not feel like the holidays as it did when we were kids. Fear not it will only last 5 months (OMG)! Holiday activities begin with the children's Christmas party on the 3rd, hopefully Santa will be jolly and not cranky! Be sure to sign up your children because it's sure to be one fun afternoon. The holiday spirit continues Saturday, December 10th with the adult Christmas party ELECTED MEMBERS OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS 2016 OFFICERS Commodore Vice Commodore Rear Commodore Fleet Captain Dockmaster Recording Secretary Corresponding Secretary Treasurer Kenneth Burgio Jamie Schmitt Daniel Bright Jeremy Schmitt Bill Vaughan Chris Rizzo P/C Joe Riccio Rick Kivler 208-3004 912-7226 628-4354 553-7893 445-4917 281- 984-8034 812-4424 541-7077 Please visit our web site at: http://innerharboryc.com P/C Michael Seaman P/C George Schieder Jay Rowland James Ortiz Eric Mowry Fran Capan Victor Kaye Appointed Officers Steward William (Bill) Vaughan Chaplain George O. The past year has been a wonderful experience, and has certainly flown by. I have enjoyed being your President and appreciate all of the support and help I have received. With that being said, I would like to congratulate Linda Capan, our President-Elect for the 2017 year. I would also like to congratulate the following women who will serve on the Bridge and Board alongside Linda in 2017: Vice President Phyllis Kivler, Recording Secretary Claudia Rowland, Corresponding Secretary Nancy Myszka, Treasurer Donna Sherwood, and Director Mary Riccio. We are still in need of Fleetmates and two Directors. Please consider stepping up “For The Good Of The Auxiliary” and help us fill these positions. There will be one final chance to do so at our December meeting. Thank you for your support! December is another busy month for us. Fish Fry is on December 2nd, and we could use a Pie Lady as well as some desserts to sell. Any donations that you could provide would be helpful. If you are able to step in as Pie Lady please contact Director Phyllis Kivler. The Children’s Christmas Party will be held on December 3rd from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM. Please be sure to sign your children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren up by the deadline of November 23rd to ensure that Santa’s elves have plenty of time to get the gifts together. If you are bringing in a gift for a child, please contact Vice President Mary Riccio to make arrangements for your gift to be placed under the tree prior to the party. The homemade chicken noodle soup was a hit by the looks of it. As of now it looks like all the team rosters are solid with no holes to speak of (knock on wood). It only took 2 years, but it’s nice security to have. Many of you will be going on vacation during the upcoming winter months. If you will be away while your team is scheduled, please try and switch with another team’s member and contact me so I can plan accordingly. I appreciate everyone’s effort in this. Next up is Team 4 on December 2nd. Let’s keep them busy all night. Spread the word to family and friends and help support your club.
