Good Afternoon!
DG Geeta Manek, PDG Eric Kimani, DGE Harry Mugo, Country Chair Alex
Nyaga, AGs, District and Country Officers, Presidents, Past Presidents, Fellow
Rotarians, Rotaractors, and Guests. I really appreciate your presence at this
occasion, I am indeed humbled.
It is a great honor to be elected to the top
position of a Rotary Club., also to be given an opportunity to speak to
distinguished Ladies and Gentlemen as yourself. Thank you for attending.
I start by thanking Immediate Past President Sam Kiarie Wairachu for the
outstanding leadership he provided the Rotary Club of Westlands this past
year. Congratulations on a job well done!. Though President Sam has handed
over, he will still play a role in Club leadership, as per rotary tradition, he will
be a board member in the capacity of Immediate past President and Club
Trainer. We all wish him the best in this endeavor. I also thank and
congratulate last years board members for the support they gave President
Sam and the Rotary Club of Westlands. Thank You
I have had many mentors and supporters; they played a role in my being up
here today. I acknowledge all of them. I was invited to join the Rotary Club of
Westlands in 2007, by a friend PP Rtn Nicholas Oguge. Rtn Nicholas is a fellow
colleague in the Kenya Fulbright Humphrey Alumni Association. As a Fulbright
alumnus it was easy for me to comprehend and relate to the objectives of
Rotary. As a Rotarian I cherish community service while having fun and

fellowshipping with people of diverse professions. I found a home in the Rotary
Club of Westlands and moved up the ranks from Club baby, ordinary member,
Director, President Elect and Now President. This journey was challenging, but
made possible by fellow Rotarians, who had confidence in me and gave their
full support. Thank you
I value Rotary's impact on its members' personal, family, and professional lives.
Working on Rotary projects is stimulating; In that so many Rotarians are:
•
intelligent,
•
interested and concerned in the world around them,
•
unselfish,
•
outgoing,
•
generous,
•
optimistic people
Rotarians challenge themselves to do and be the very best. It is such a pleasure
to be involved in an organization that is dedicated to helping others and
promoting world peace. We all need to live in secure and livable communities
as Martin Luther King Jr said:
“The hope of a secure and livable world lies with disciplined free spirited
people who are dedicated to justice, peace and brotherhood.”
_Martin Luther King, Jr.
I recognize that being adorned the club presidency is not a holiday ticket but a
job appointment. With the support and dedication of fellow Rotarians we will
raise the club to new levels. My team and I will strive for peace in all that we
do, while upholding RI President Sakuji Tanaka’s ideology, as he said:
“In Rotary, our business is not profit. Our business is peace. Our reward is

not money, but the happiness and satisfaction of seeing a better, more
peaceful world — one that we have achieved through our own efforts”
_ RI President 2012-13, Sakuji Tanaka
Peace is very significant to humankind as stated by Charles C. Keller of
Pennsylvania USA, he said that;
“The challenge of world peace…is the most pressing imperative of our
time….In a world which possesses the means of self-destruction, if we do
not find the path of peace, whatever else we do won’t make much
difference.”
_Charles C. Keller
This year we plan to revitalize the club and make an impact through peace,
and “Peace through Service”. We will be flexible and change with the
communities needs as we carry out our projects. Nelson Mandela once said:
“You can never have an impact on society if you have not changed
yourself... Great peacemakers are all people of integrity, of honesty, and
humility.”
__ Nelson Mandela
With those few remarks…..
I accept this new challenge to serve as President for the Rotary Club of
Westlands!
Thank You!
Rtn. Adon Ombura.
President, Rotary Club of Westlands-Nairobi, 2012-2013
