Explore the characteristics of Romanesque sculpture ie Tympanums. An example we will

Teaching/Learning Strategies:
Students will:
 Write in notes into the handout instead of reading through it. This will help them to pay
attention and to take in the information better.
 Ask direct questions to a random students to help keep the students focused and listening.
 I will use visual aids for all of my notes and interesting educational videos.
Materials:
Handout notes, Art book, overhead projector, online videos
Differentiation:
I have two students who have very poor English and will struggle with the art history. I will write in
their note on the handout for them so they will not need to in class. I will also try to keep the notes
as visual as I can to help them follow the class and not become uninterested.
Timeline/Sequence of Lessons:
Week 1 Lesson 1:
Introduction to the topic through notes on the handout. Short paragraph with good points of
information not too much text. The handout will go on to introduce and explain 10 characteristics of
Romanesque architecture. I will then have a simple test base on key points of information. The test
will be visual mostly pointing out the key points of architecture we have looked at.
Week 2 Lesson 2:
Focus onto a Tympanum. A detailed handout based on “The last judgment” will be given out to the
class. I will talk through the information with the students to make sure there is no problems with
the notes. I will also show an educational videos based on The last judgment. I will also show a
virtual tour through a Romanesque church so students can see the architecture we have
discussed.
