Third Grade Vocab/SpellingWordsCharlotte’s Web: May 9-13
Next week we will be continuing to read Charlotte’s Web. We will be focusing on
Chapters 7-15. The definitions for the vocabulary from the story and some sample
sentences are listed below. Please discuss the meaning and study the spelling of each word
at home with your child.

1. put forth energy, make an effort; 2. apply pressure to something *Charlotte
was trying not to exert too much energy when spinning her web.
to dislike somebody or something very much *The farm animals loathe being
held in captivity in the barnyard.

will oblige Templeton by allowing him to eat from his trough each day.

BONUS:
*bewilderment- confusion or incomprehension *Wilbur was in bewilderment when he
discovered Charlotte’s secret.
*campaign- 1. a series of events that are meant to persuade, or convince, voters to vote
for someone or something; 2. planned actions meant to achieve a goal; 3. a
series of military operations, or actions, done in order to meet a goal or
accomplish something * The farm animals all worked together and
campaigned to save Wilbur.
*sedentary - 1. involving a lot of sitting; 2. not moving at all, staying in one place; 3. birds
that do not migrate, or move to a new location, throughout the year *At the
fair, Templeton was sedentary during the day, but moved around and ate way
too much at night.
