Background
The Auckland Writers Festival is New Zealand’s premiere festival of books and ideas, a boutique
annual event founded in 1999 which retains an intimate and hospitable scale while securing a
large, engaged audience for six days of conversation, discussion, debate, reading and
performance events with some of the world’s best writers and thinkers.
In May 2016 we presented over 140 sessions with 35 international and more than 100 New
Zealand guests, attracting attendances of approximately 65,000 (over 24,000 unique attendees).
Job Description
Working with the Marketing & Development Manager, the Marketing Assistant will support
the undertaking of specific Marketing activities for the 2017 Auckland Writers Festival.
Skills and experience





Demonstrated project and time management skills
High level of computer/digital literacy with knowledge of MS Office software,
Photoshop and social media practices
Ability to manage a varied workload and work to deadlines
Good relationship skills
Ideally a graduate or student of marketing, communication or event management.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Marketing Assistant role will include the following activities:
Pre-Festival:
 Loading programme copy, image, author pics etc to AWF website and ticketing
websites
 Loading programme copy, image, author pics etc to ticketing websites
 Photoshop resizing of images and author pics
 Internal image resizing for web, e-newsletters and publicity
 Website monitoring/ updating as necessary
 Proofing programme copy
 Distribution of programmes, posters etc
 Working with Publicist & Marketing Manager on marketing and publicity plan
 Social media postings (content research, planning and scheduling)
 Sourcing and sending prizes for social media competitions




Email newsletter (content planning, using mail chimp system, proofing)
Printing of tickets
Media clippings
Working evening launch events (Mon 13 & Wed 15 Mar)
Festival Week
 Working full Festival days and evenings (Mon 15 – Sun 21 May)
 Running Festival Info Desk
 Managing Festival Social Media
Post-Festival
 Take part in Festival round-up and feedback meetings
 Help collate audience survey information
 Help with photos and archiving
 Help with Sponsor reports
Plus any other ad hoc activities that arise.
General




Attend meetings when and as required by the Marketing & Development Manager.
Attend weekly team meeting (Monday AM)
Attend weekly Marketing & publicity meeting (Monday AM)
Assist Marketing & Development Manager or other AWF staff as required.
Reporting

This position is a direct report to the Marketing & Development Manager.
