Our Utah Sustainable Transportation
and Energy Plan – or STEP – supports
emission reductions from fossilfuel power plants, expands electric
vehicle charging stations and advances
economic development.
Utah customers will see important benefits from STEP, including:
• Cleaner air: Reduced use of fossil-fuel power plants, incentives for electric
vehicles and energy efficiency incentives will lower emissions in Utah and
improve air quality.
• Stronger economy: Incentives to attract new businesses will create jobs
and grow Utah’s business climate.
• Enhanced customer protection: This proactive approach will maintain
stable and low electricity prices for Utah customers.
We will continue working with government and business leaders to implement
STEP with the anticipation that elements in the program would begin later
this year. Visit rockymountainpower.net/step for details.

SAFETY
MATTERS
Use generators
with care
If there’s an outage, a
portable generator can be
helpful to power individual
appliances. However,
you need to pay close
attention to safety when
operating one.
Never plug the generator
into an outlet or a home’s
electrical panel without
having a professional
electrician install a
transfer switch. Plugging a
generator into an outlet is
extremely dangerous to
you and your neighbors.
Generators emit deadly
carbon monoxide, so only
use them outdoors, away
from windows, doors and
vents, and in open areas
protected from weather.

Our Pinto substation outside Monticello, Utah, is now home to the largest
phase-shifting power transformer in the United States. In fact, it’s the second
largest in the world! The unit weighs approximately 2.5 million pounds.
This big upgrade to the substation will enhance service reliability for all our
customers. It will also increase capacity and operational flexibility of the
transmission system and better accommodate renewable resources in the region.
Planning for the project began in 2012. The new transformer was shipped in
two pieces – both arrived on separate transport vehicles last fall. Each vehicle
was 413 feet long – a bit more than a football field – with 30 axles and 240
tires. It was pulled by one and at times two trucks, and pushed by five others.
After extensive testing, the transformer is expected to be in full operation next
month. Learn more at rockymountainpower.net/reliability.
