“Quote, Unquote”
“Efficiency is doing things right; effectiveness is doing the right things.”
“Nothing is as worthless as doing efficiently what should not be done at all.”
--Peter Drucker
--Peter Drucker
“Motivation is what differentiates talkers from doers, dreamers from achievers, a good department from a dynamic
one, families where related people simply live together from those that are healthy and happy.”1
“The greatest waste in America is failure to use the abilities of people.”
--W. Edwards Deming
“While experience, brainpower, and willpower all affect performance significantly, only the presence of the
right talents—recurring patterns of behavior that fit the role—can account for this range in performance.
Only the presence of talents can explain why . . . some people excel in the role and some struggle.”2
“I like pushing things to the edge. That’s often where you find high performance.”
“The harder I work, the luckier I get.”
--Bill Gates
--Mark Twain
“Whatever you goal, you can get there if you’re willing to work.”
--Oprah Winfrey
“How long [an] employee stays and how productive he is while there is determined by his relationship with
his immediate supervisor.”3
“Everyone thinks of changing the world, but no one thinks of changing himself.”
--Leo Tolstoy
“You can see the computer age everywhere but in the productivity statistics.”4 --The Solow Computer Paradox
“Institute a vigorous program of education and self-improvement. “Everyone might well ask himself every
day what he has done this day to advance his learning and skill on the job, and how he has advanced his education for
greater satisfaction in life.”5
--W. Edwards Deming
“The conventional view serves to protect us from the painful job of thinking.”
-- John K. Galbraith
"Costs go down and productivity goes up as improvement of quality is accomplished by better management of design,
engineering, testing and by improvement of processes."[5]
--W. Edwards Deming
The two-dimensional model of quality: "must-be quality" and "attractive quality."[8] The former is near to "fitness for
use" and the latter is what the customer would love, but has not yet thought about. This model is more succinctly as:
"Products and services that meet or exceed customers' expectations."
--Noriaki Kano
