The Woman, The teacher,
The Marsha Stewart
Drue Pieper
Thank you for your thirty years of service
Co-Editor/Columnist
The “Science Tradition”
at Norfolk Catholic High School
is retiring. The “Science Tradition” is also known as Marsha Stewart. Marsha Stewart
has been teaching at Norfolk
Catholic for thirty years. She
has been a big part of the science program we have today.
Marsha Stewart has influenced
students in many ways. Whether it was about science class,
or life lessons. She has always
been willing to help us understand and know information
that applies to the class. We
all know that even though we
dread the class some days, we
always leave with new information.
In thirty years you can
get a lot done, which is exactly what Marsha Stewart has
done. As mentioned earlier,
Marsha Stewart has taught everything from: Earth Sciences,
Chemistry, Anatomy Physiology, College Bio., Biology,
Physical Science, and several
others. Besides the contributions to the science program at
Norfolk Catholic, she has been
part of several extracurriculars.
These include: Quiz Bowl and
Futures. She led several of
these teams to contest, representing the school well. We are
thankful for the accomplishments she has had in these
programs.
Marsha Stewart’s class
has always been an interesting time. Several days we walk
into the class, dreading the lectures about sciency things. The
truth is, we are thankful for the
lectures and all the laughs they
have brought. All the students
who have survived the class
understand what walking with
a purpose, how to understand
extremely fast talking lectures,
and how to understand the
“unique” writings on the board.
What I mean by “unique” is
when Marsha Stewart writes
something, tries to erase it,
smudges it and then just writes
over the top. A favorite memory
of one senior was when Mrs.
Stewart was giving a lecture
about CHO, CHO2, CHON,
CHONP. During mid-sentence,
she fell asleep. Nobody knows
how long she was out for sure,
ten seconds, thirty seconds,
or one minute, but when she
woke up, she continued right
along with the lecture. A personal favorite is the legendary SedWICK. No matter how
many times we correct the
misspelling, it is always a “W”
instead of a “R”. I asked a
few others about their favorite memories, these included:
asking Maddie Neal if she was
a foreign exchange student
from China, calling me the hall
monitor whenever she sees
me in the hallway, yelling at
Sam Cantu to wake up several
times a class period, “You go
girl” with the sassy finger, and
of course the legendary “YO!”.
I asked Mrs. Stewart
a few questions for this article. What year did you start
teaching at Norfolk Catholic? I started teaching the fall
of 1987. How long have you
been teaching here? I have
been teaching for thirty years.
You have influenced hundreds of kids over the past
30 years, how have you done
this? I have influenced them
by encouraging them to learn
in their own way, and by teaching them how to study to reach
their potential. What are you
looking forward to doing in
your retirement:? Traveling,
gardening, and reading. What
will you miss about teaching at Norfolk Catholic? I will
miss the people, but I definitely
won’t miss the checking papers, the lesson planning or
the cleaning up after labs. Do
you have any advice for any
new, fresh out of college,
teachers? Inspire, encourage,
and above all, be honest.
THANK YOU Marsha
Stewart for all your thirty years
of hard work and service. You
have taught many students the
lessons of life and the lessons
of science. We appreciate all
your hard work and are thankful for the memories and countless laughs.

Staying Involved
Molly Knake
Columnist
Staying involved in high
school is what makes the high
school experience something
to remember! Joining different clubs and sports is where
you will meet
new
people
who you will
remember for
the rest of your
life. High school
memories are
ones you will
keep close to
your heart for
a long time. I
have been extremely involved
throughout all of junior high and
high school and by staying so
involved I will be graduating with
no regrets knowing that I tried
everything I could. Also by putting myself out there and trying
new things, I opened myself up
to all sorts of opportunities. Not
all activities are for everyone,
but you may never know if you
don’t try! One of my favorite activities I have been involved in
has been being
part of the school
Newspaper staff.
Before freshman
year, I never really had the opportunity to write
about things I
wanted to or was
interested in, and
being a part of
the newspaper staff gave me
that opportunity. Newspaper
is a great thing to be part of in
high school. Whether you’re
interested in photography, writing, editing, or layout design
there is a place on the Newspaper staff for you!

Graduation Day
By Tobi Obatusin
Graduation day
Is a long awaited day
For both parents and the graduate
It’s a day dream come true
The joy and the pride
Of graduating from Norfolk
Catholic
The feeling is overwhelming
Here begins the next chapter
of my life
You and I
By Emma Stelling
Like you said we don’t always see eye to eye.
But you are my crutch,
You make me happy when
all I want to do is cry,
You are my family,
You are crazy outrageous,
And we are about to end
one chapter
and start another.
So to that I say
out with the old and
in with the new.
Graduation

Graduation is coming soon
The day will be a good
I will miss my teachers
But I can’t wait for the diploma
College coming next
And I’m ready for next step
And move on in life
Goodbye
Graduation
by Myles Vrbka
Graduation day is finally here,
And so now ends my high
school career.
I will remember the friends I
held close,
And looking forward to my future without any fear
This is the day I’ve been preparing for
Since the moment I walked
through that first classroom
door
Now it is time to say good-bye
And spread my wings
I’m ready to fly.

Graduation
by Cassidy Borgmann
There are so many different paths
to take.
Stay in town.
Move thirty minutes away.
Move hours away.
Or move out of state.
We may not be walking the same
halls anymore,
But we will always share years of
memories together.
And that’s something special
The Final Walk
By Seth Ruppert
The time has come for us,
we have been waiting for so long
and it has finally come.
Our lives will never be the same
after this day has passed.
Years of learning and growing up
during our youth has led to
this one moment,
and suddenly takes us by surprise.
We might be ready,
or we might not be ready,
but in the end we will take what
we have learned and
apply these lessons to
our lives and make
a difference in the world.
A Day to Remember
by Josie Roenfeldt
Graduation is a time to reflect
And a time to dream
It is a time for laughter
But also a time for tears of joy
Graduation is a time to reach forward
Saying farewell to yesterday
and hello to what is to come
A time for all to gather
and to celebrate all that we are
And all that we may become
Graduation Day
By Shane Bachman
The day I graduate,
The day I feel free,
The day I feel accomplished,
But nothing in life is guaranteed
I watch my classmates drift
away,
So i make the most of it
But I know I have my day ones
Always with me to stay

Our Final Chapter
by Sabrina Swenson
People we’ve seen everyday
We may never see again,
The friends we’ve made so true
and dear
Will now be in the past,
This chapter of our life
Is coming to an end,
Whether we are ready or not
Here we come world
Graduation
By Alex Anderson
Graduation is a time to remember.
It's a happy day,
Although a sad day for some
A time for tears and laughter
But also a time for tears.
As we look back on our high
school days
We realize it's time to let go
To say goodbye to yesterday's times
And hello to a whole new life
2017
By Diana Mendez
A chapter of our lives is coming to a close,
All the memories and laughter,
The stories we’ll soon forget,
Until something triggers our
memory.
Then we’ll smile at ourselves
And for a moment,
Feel as if it is 2017 once again
And making memories with the
class of SN17CHES
It’s Time
By Jordan Knudson
The time has come
For all of us to go our separate ways
We will never forget each other or our
memories,
We will still keep in touch but,
It’s time for us to meet new people,
And discover new things.
We will remember these days for the
rest of our lives,
So for now, let us enjoy them

Graduation
Senior English
By Taite Marksmeier
I Remember the first day of 3rd grade
I was shy as could be and just wanted to make
some friends
I remember the first day of seventh grade and
thinking the class is almost done with school
I remember finding my friends & talking about
being in the big school now
I remember the first day of school freshman year
and thinking only four more years
I remember wondering what do I want to do with
my life
I remember the first day of senior year beginning
and saying thank God its senior year
I remember when graduating was the last thing
on my mind
Now it's almost here and I wish graduation was
a little farther away
One Last Goodbye
By Kallie Olmer
I sit here in my desk and wonder,
Where have all the years gone?
Remembering all the memories
and good times,
The gym, classrooms, and hallways,
My last Friday night football
game.
I will be lined up in our cap and
gowns
With the people I’ve grown up
with.
So here I am leaving for the last
time,
Saying goodbye to my friends.
The Big Day
By Hailey Lammers
The day has come
A celebration, a goodbye, and a new
beginning
A time to look back on all the great
memories
Shared with people I have spent my
life with
A time to say goodbye to old friends
Friends who have helped me through
tough times
A time to look foreward
To chose the new path to begin the
next part of my life
It's the big day
Graduation?
By Kailey Neesen
I am graduating and this is
how I feel.
My whole life I have gone to
the same school,
Had the same friends.
Lived in the same house,
Lived in the same town,
Dressed the same every day,
And I haven’t had to make that
many decisions for myself.
Now I have to make the biggest decisions of my whole life.
Soon I will be living in a new
place
With new people
In a different state
And a different time zone.
I try to tell myself I will be ok.
I will be ok,
I will be ok,
But what if I’m not.
What if I don’t like college.
What if I don’t like my roommates.
What if I don’t like Arizona.
Wow, I can’t wait to graduate.
Time To Go
By Jacob Beed
As my time here comes to an
end, I begin to contemplate
all of my past accomplishments, whether they were
actually worth celebrating or
if they were just checkpoints
in this existence we call living, but if these memories
and accomplishments live
on long after I am gone then
they will be my legacy and
my legacy will have to include my younger years, the
years I walked these halls
of Norfolk Catholic and met
the people who would shape
who I would be become as
a person; there will be times
I am not fond of the school
that I call my own, but that
does not mean that I wish
I had been elsewhere, because that school will have
made me who I am.

Don’t Go
By Elizabeth Fanta
Before school began
There was excitement and spirit
During high school, it vanished
We all desire to leave and never return.
But why?
After high school we realize how
great it was
And all we can think about are the
good times we had
After the graduation ceremony, we
start a new adventure in life
College . . . a Career . . .
It is time to live in the moment and not
take for granted what we have
Time
By Jana Unger
It’s finally here
The moment we’ve been
waiting for
No more white halls
No more red and black
No more football halftime
dances
Or wishing the clock would
roll back
These memories play inside
my head, but
Someday I’ll wish I could go
back
To the familiar white walls
The inviting red and black
The Friday night lights
The school I flourished in
This is home
Graduation Day!
By Lexi Kellogg
Happy Graduation Day!
The day is finally here.
The day we all have worked
toward
Through many long, and hard
years.
Friends who have faced obstacles
With bravery and a smile.
We have learned life lessons
And did it with great style.
So, Happy Graduation Day!

Farewell & Best Wishes to Our Seniors!
As we close this school
year of ‘16-’17 I want to thank my
editor Kailey Neesen for the past
four years of her hard work, determination and patience she has
shown the staff. We will be saying
goodbye to four seniors pictured
below from our staff: The rest
of our remaining staff shall miss
their strong commitment and determination in getting our paper
printed each month. The satis-
Cassidy Borgmann
faction of their involvement with
the school newspaper has meant
many things to these four individuals. I am proud of all the seniors
who participated in creating six papers for this school year. We will
miss their input, but I will have a
great group of returning students
who have the spirit and energy to
continue with the “Knight Times”
newspaper.
In the new school year
Molly Knake
this fall we will be entering the
ninth year of publishing the Knight
Times. The advertisers have
dwindled and scaled down their
ads which prompted us to drop
the February issue for this past
school year. The cost of printing is
high when we have eight colored
pages, which we changed back
to black and white in our March
and April issue. We will be pursuing new advertisers this summer
in hopes of getting back to eight
colored pages. The staff has indicated they are ready to secure
our monies needed for paying
each months printing costs. We
are hopefuly and encouraged as
we look forward to another school
year of recording memories and
achievements of our Norfolk Catholic students.

by Jocelyn Garduño
My regular routine is coming to
an end
I will no longer walk through high
school doors
The hallways I walk everyday
Will no longer be my hallways to
walk
The faces I see everyday
Will no longer be around
Every day I am one step closer
to being done
Soon enough my routine will
change
Needless to say,
I can’t wait to graduate from Norfolk Catholic High School
By Trey Colton
It is about that time of year,
The time of year where the flowers
are blooming,
Seniors getting a case of senioritis,
And the stressful preparation for
the party,
The stressful planning of what you
will be doing after graduation.
The day.
The day is here the final steps by a
high school student.
The red gleaming cap and gown.
The tears and joyful smiles filling up
the large church.
It is finally time to actually graduate and begin a new chapter of our
lives.

What inspired you to make
this?
I like the symmetrical features
of the lion that is portrayed
across the ceiling tile.
What did you use to make,
and how much time did it
take you?
I used a ceiling tile from the art
room, and acrylic paint. I have
been working on it for five days
and it is still not complete.
What other artwork have you
made this year?
I have created a pinwheel out
of a toilet roll, a collage made
out of colorful magazine articles. We also painted animals,
I personally made a panda.
During our clay unit, I created
a nativity scene and several
pots.
What are you currently making?
I’m currently finishing the ceiling tile project.
How long have you been in
art? Will you continue?
I have been in art for one year
of high school and for both
years of junior high. I am planning to continue art classes
next year.
What is your favorite part of
art class?
My favorite part of art class is
expressing my art skills and
talents. I also get to spend
time with my friends aka Jacob
Molacek and Mrs. Kraft.
Why should students participate in art?
Students should participate in
art class because it is fun. It is
a great time to relax and take
out your worries with a paint
brush or some clay. You also
get to spend time with your
friends.
Can you give any advice for
people to improve at art?
I am not the best person to
give advice on art, but never
give up on your work.

Graduation Day
By Colby Abler
The church bell is ringing.
It is time.
All of the class mingling in Burns Gym
We line up to do our final walk as a senior class.
We hear the graduation song playing on the organ,
We walk down the aisle,
We listen to the Valedictorian do their speech
Then finally the time has come
Colby Abler
I walk up and receive the diploma
Get a few pictures
Move the tassels.
I graduated!!!!
Now it's time to go to graduation parties!!!
Graduation
By Noah Wilcox
As we walk up this aisle
We glance back at the memories
All the times we played
All the times we cried
All the times we shared
All the times we laughed
It is all over now
But it’s time to start something
new!
Saying Goodbye
by Ashlyn Hauser
The time has come for us to say
goodbye
To leave the place we grew up
The familiar faces that walk down
the halls
The same old routine that happens
every fall
The last few weeks of high school
Are approaching very quickly
Time to say goodbye

Graduation

Graduation is finally here
And so my high school days
Where kids become an adult
Where we talk our next step

Where we loved and laughed
We finished preparing all the
things we need to know
So it’s time to say goodbye
But it definitely not farewell.
Our Time to Go

Graduation is near,
Please do not fear.
The rest of our lives are
ahead of us,
Don’t make it such a fuss.
College is a lot of stress,
Don’t forget how to dress.
New memories this summer,
With friends you will never

GRADUATION
by Celina Spadt
A fun party...
A great time for looking back on lessons we learned
adventures we shared, and bright moments filled
with special meaning.
A sad goodbye...
A time for saying goodbye to lifelong friends,
to all the good times we’ve known...time for packing up
memories,
treasures for another day
A new beginning…
A time for looking forward, to set exciting new goals,
to dream new
big dreams, to try our wings, spread them
and see
where they will take us.
Farewell All
By Dylan Cattau
Graduating from high school is a very special time.
Some graduates may cry, people may laugh,
Others may even start running out the door
Some graduates may never want to come back
While some people may never want to leave Norfolk Catholic
The day that I have been waiting for 12 years is finally almost
here
I don’t know if I’m ready to let go of Norfolk Catholic yet,
But Norfolk Catholic is ready to let go of me and let others hold
the reins of the school.
Graduation Preparation
By Trenton Jorgensen
Remember when we were young,
and the most important thing to us was recess.
Remember when our homework
could be finished in five minutes.
Remember when we were in junior high,
and we went to our first snowball dances.
Remember when we all got detentions
for cheating on the chemistry test.
Remember graduation day,
and we got that darn diploma,
And got the heck out of here.
Opportunities
By Sydney Borgmann
Graduation is the end of one era and the beginning of another.
Sometimes endings are sad.
We are not ready to let go.
Once we let go of that area of life
We are free to pursue new opportunities.
We must now face the unknown. The unknown can be scary.
If we look at the unknown as an opportunity,
Instead of a threat we will grow.

Dear Norfolk Catholic,
As my last days as a student, I walk the halls of this school and, I can’t help but reminisce in all of the times spent here. Thank you for the infinite amount
of red t-shirts, and sweatshirts, red and white polos and the khaki pants. I’ll never forget the endless stares we got from kids in jeans and sweats when we went on a
field trip in our uniforms. I definitely will never forget the one time I didn't wear a belt and got a detention. Not all of my memories from Norfolk Catholic are bad, I
met great friends and had many influential teachers that have taught me so much. From the start of kindergarten to the end of my senior year, you watched me grow
up. This school has shaped me into the person I am today. This school has taught me my ABC’s, math, english and science, but it has also taught me how to be a good
christian and how to have a relationship with God. I have witnessed the staff and teachers be models of Christ’s love. I can tell the teachers here actually care about
the students, and their success. They truly walk with you to meet Jesus. The teachers and students have relationships that goes further than the classroom, they are
coaches and mentors as well. I will always be thankful for that.
Thank you for teaching me how important tradition is. Tradition never graduates. Norfolk Catholic is filled with tradition, the Senior ski trip, going out to
Tintern, having the senior lounge, Red Zone, lighting the NC on fire after the powder puff football game and the House Olympics. These are only some of the many
traditions at this school. I’m glad I had the chance to keep the traditions going. I hope they continue to be passed on and new ones can start. There is always pride in
telling someone I go to Norfolk Catholic and I will always have pride telling someone I am an alum.
Lastly, thank you for teaching me what it is like to have a family outside of my immediate family. Every time something happens to someone in the Norfolk
Catholic community we come together to support that individual. This has happened many times throughout my time here and it makes me feel so blessed to apart of a
community that supports and loves each other as much as we do. You don't find that kind of community support anywhere else. no matter where life takes me, I will
apart be a part of the Norfolk Catholic community and Norfolk Catholic will always hold a special place in my heart. Once again thank you for being such a big part
of my life and you will be greatly missed.
Sincerely,
Senior
