TRUSTEE AND BOARD MEMBER

PERSON SPECIFICATION FOR LANDSCAPE INSTITUTE HONORARY SECRETARY (TRUSTEE AND BOARD MEMBER)
Candidates and/or appointees should demonstrate the following:
ESSENTIAL
Understanding and experience of governance issues;
Experience of staff welfare issues, including performance management of senior staff and
disciplinary issues;
Time to commit to the role;
Understanding of the duties, responsibilities and liabilities of a trustee (c/f terms of reference
for the board);
Especially understanding of conflicts of interest and risk management;
Commitment to the Nolan principles;
Commitment to the overall aims and objectives of the Landscape Institute;
Willingness to act as ambassador and safeguard the Institute’s reputation and values;
Appreciation of professional practice matters;
Keenness on attention to detail and completing and finishing;
Appreciation of the importance of effective working between the secretariat staff, the
honorary officers and trustees, the advisory council and members in the broadest sense: and
ability to ensure effective working between them all;
Personal qualities:

Impartiality, fairness and confidentiality;
o
Willingness to speak one’s mind and deal with conflict constructively;
o
Leading by example.
DESIRABLE
Previous involvement in the Landscape Institute or other professional bodies;
Highly developed communication skills – especially clear reporting style;
Flexible attitude and enthusiasm to work as a team player;
Experience and appreciation of the role of volunteers;
Expertise in one or more of the following:
o
Charity management
o
Human resources
o
Law
o
Risk management.
Personal qualities:
