Microsoft Office Live Mountwest students, faculty, and staff now have the flexibility to create and edit documents created using popular Microsoft Office applications Microsoft® Word, Microsoft® Excel, Microsoft® PowerPoint, and even Microsoft® OneNote online, by way of their Windows Live SkyDrive. This brief document will introduce you to this free service. Your SkyDrive… All Mountwest students and employees have an allotment of 25GB of cloud storage to upload and share documents, photographs, contacts and other information. (Note: Each file is limited to a 100 MB quota.) With recent service enhancements Microsoft has now introduced Office via Windows Live. Accessing Your SkyDrive… These services can be easily accessed from the myMCTC website by clicking the Log in to your MCTC E-mail Account link. Once you have successfully logged in to your Mountwest Live account accessing these resources takes a few simple clicks! To access your free 25GB SkyDrive simply locate the main navigation bar atop your Mountwest Live Web Access page and click the drop down tab labeled “More”, then click the “SkyDrive” link. Accessing Office® Live… To edit an existing or to create a new document, begin by clicking the “Office” drop down tab atop your Mountwest Live Web Access page and choose the appropriate “link.” Selecting “Your documents” will navigate you to “stored” documents on your SkyDrive that are ready to be viewed and/or edited. Choosing “New…” document, workbook, presentation, or notebook will open the respective “web apps” to create a new file to your SkyDrive. Creating a New Document… You will be prompted to “Name” your new document and be required to click “Save” to proceed to the application of your choice. Once the new document has been created, you will be “immersed” into a fully functioning “web” version of your chosen Office Application. (Each application has the option to allow you to “open” the document in a full version of the application (if it is installed on the computer being used to access the online document). Simply click the button to the right if you should need to open the document in the full application version. Working in Groups Made Easy! In Windows Live SkyDrive, multiple authors can edit a document at the same time! To share a document click the “File” option tab and then choose the “Share” option. You will them be prompted to “Edit permissions” setting the amount of privilege (to edit, view, etc) for files that you share. A text box is available that will allow you to type e-mail addresses (or browse the Outlook Global Address List) of those you wish to share the document with.
