Directions:
Have students pair up with a game board and a set of question cards and markers. Each player
decides whether to play with black or white markers. Hold up the treasure chest game board.
Point out that inside the treasure chest there are 16 “jewels” with vocabulary words written on
them. Hold up a question card. Tell students that they will take turns picking question cards. The
vocabulary word that answers the question is on the game board. When players find the correct
word, they will put their marker on that space. The first person to get three markers in a row is
the winner.
1. Tell students that they will start by placing all of the question cards for their game in a pile
facedown.
2. Player 1 will choose the top card on the pile and read it out loud. He or she will then place a
marker on the jewel on the game board that correctly answers the question.
3. Player 2 then takes a turn by taking the top question card, reading it, and placing a marker in
the correct jewel on the game board.
4. Play continues in the same way until one of the players has three markers in a row.
5. The first player to have three markers in a row wins!
