Join in this event for good food and good fellowship. THE STORY OF SAINT FAUSTINA: Saint Faustina was born Helena Kowalska in 1905. She was raised in a large Polish peasant family and grew up a poor girl with little education or prospects. But when Jesus appeared to her, telling her to head for Warsaw and become a nun, she secretly hopped on a train for the city. Arriving penniless, she went throughout Warsaw and knocked on the doors of convents until the Sisters of Our Lady of Mercy finally accepted her. In 1930, Sister Faustina, as she was then called, began to receive regular mystical visits from Jesus. In these visions, He asked her to spread devotion to His Divine Mercy. Christ’s mission for Faustina was fulfilled after her death, when Saint John Paul II declared the Sunday after Easter to be Divine Mercy Sunday. Devotion to Christ’s Divine Mercy continues to grow worldwide. In April 2000, Faustina Kowalska was declared the first saint of the 21st century. The dramatization of St. Faustina’s life and mission, and modern day reflections on Divine Mercy, can be seen at St. Paul Parish on March 22, 2017 at 7:00PM. There is no cost to attend. A free-will offering will be taken. Since it is open seating no reservation is needed. It is provided to us by St. Luke Productions. Readings & Reflections THE JOURNEY OF TRANSFIGURATION “We used to be such good friends. How is it that you’ve moved so far away?” one man asked another. “Perhaps,” the other replied, “you have moved away. By standing still.” This exchange very well could have happened between Peter and Jesus, had Peter been allowed to erect tents to stay on the mount of the Transfiguration. He nearly succumbed to the temptation to stay in a place of wonder and light. But Jesus knew the hard truth: we are on a continual journey when we are walking the paths of God’s will. It is not good for us to stay in one place on our faith journey. Equally unhealthy is staying put in times of joy and wonder to avoid life’s difficulties, or to wallow in our trials and temptations and fail to be companions for our sisters and brothers who are also suffering—or celebrating! The pilgrim Church is required to do one thing on its Lenten journey: to walk continually with Christ as his Body born of water and the Spirit, seeking God’s will, helping the reign of God to be known on earth, being led to the end of our journey, transfigured for all time into the company of heaven. DID YOU KNOW ... that St. Pope John Paul II spent hours each day in Adoration before the Blessed Sacrament, especially before his mission trips and while making major decisions and writing most of his works? The partner parishes of St. Paul and St. Bruno hold Adoration every weekday from 9 AM- 3:15 PM, with extended Thursday hours until 7:15 PM, in the Chapel in the basement of St. Bruno’s rectory.
