FIELD WORK
Khumbu Region, Himalaya, Nepal: (Fall 2012) Measured supraglacial lake
bathymetry using side scan sonar, installed water temperature moorings, sonde casts
in the supraglacial lake, monitored short wave radiation spatial variation on exposed
ice faces on debris covered glaciers, installed a weather station, documented surface elevation change of the glacier using a laser rangefinder, and measured albedo using a field
spectrometer to ground truth MODIS imagery; collaboration with Ulyana Horodyskyj,
Alia Khan, and Sarah Thompson
Illulisat, Nuuk, and Kangerlussuaq, Greenland: (Summer 2012) Gauged braided
rivers, installed Iridium satellite uplinks, installed sonic rangefinders, performed oceanographic surface layer casts (CDT and LISST), performed ocean and glacial polish spectrometry to ground truth MODIS and Hyperion output, and prepared lake core samples
for laboratory work; assistant to Ben Hudson
Kennicott Glacier, Wrangell Mountains, Alaska: (2010-2013) Measured ice ablation under debris, measured bare ice face retreat, installed air temperature sensors,
gauged the Kennicott River, surveyed using laser rangefinder, measured thermal gradients through supraglacial debris, installed time-lapse cameras, and assisted with kinematic GPS installation to measure 3D ice surface velocity.
Wind River Range, Wyoming: (2009 - 2012) Installed and maintained 18 air and
ground temperature sensors at high altitude, installed timelapse cameras, collected 10
Be exposure age samples, and measured fracture densities on glacially polished bedrock.
West Bijou Creek, Colorado: (Spring 2012) used terrestrial LiDAR to document
headcut erosion; assistant to Francis Rengers
Sand Hills, Nebraska: (Spring 2011) Extracted lake cores from interdune lakes, OSL
sampling, and augured aeolian deposits; assisting Giff Miller
Lake Linné, Svalbard: (Summer 2006) Mapped surficial geology, gauged proglacial
river, maintained an automatic sediment sampler, and made ablation stake measurements.
SW Montana: (Summer 2006) MSU Geology field camp; mapped Sevier and Basin
and Range associated faults near Dillon, MT
Central Utah: (Summer 2006) MSU Geology field camp; sedimentology and stratigraphy of the deltaic Ferron formation.
