Trinity Players next production “Home is Where Your Clothes are” A Comedy by Anthony Marriott & Bob Grant At the Trinity Hall 14th to 17th May 2014 See all the details at... www.trinityplayersbarnsley.com Why not leave your email address (or postal address) with one of our assistants and we’ll remind you? -8- -1- Robin Hood & Babes in the Wood Directors Notes This is Trinity’s fifth pantomime since we revived them in 2010 and we have chosen Robin hood and Babes in the Wood – an amalgam of two classic pantomimes. Set in Sherwood around the 13 th century, it is of course loosely based on a character who may even have been a Yorkshire lad! You’ll find that we actually try and house the story somewhere around Kexborough. As usual we have been challenged in putting this together and hope you enjoy our efforts. Each year we try to be a little different with our sets, props and costumes (Oh, yes we do!) - although the jokes stay the same. This year there is a bird theme and lots of work with ropes and pulleys – oh and we’ve bought a (working) smoke machine. It is yet again the traditional tale of love transcending class and persecution (interestingly I said that about Dick Whittington last year and Aladdin and Cinderella in previous years) – and this time we have the mistreatment of children as an added factor. Once more, we have adapted a version written over 20 years ago by Christine and Michael Goodwin and the small, local team in Penistone and it has been performed a number of times at the Paramount in Penistone over the years. Our version is different (really, really different) due to a smaller stage, reduced cast and a lack of recognized singers and dancers. We’ve tried to keep faith with the original ideas of a simple family Panto. I tender our apologies to Christine and Michael for some of the torturous rewrites. -2- We Are Trinity Players Barnsley! We are always happy to meet new members so if you have a longing to tread the boards or get involved in any way, come along. We meet every Wednesday evening at the Trinity Church Hall BUT!... Don't complain if you come to do a bit of painting and end up on stage in a chicken costume. You have been warned! This year we are running again with a chorus of essentially just children (a learning experience for any director) we have 12 children with speaking parts – many for the first time. Within our restrictions and budget we have tried to include some “special” effects each year. I hope you enjoy them. Please feel free to join in with all of the audience participation sections and make this as pleasurable an experience as it has been for the cast and crew who have been working hard for some weeks. For me the highlights to look out for are the Merry Men’s fight (we chose our clumsiest actors for this) and the Sheriff’s hawk! Enjoy it – and if you do, please feel free to tell others that we are on over two weekends – otherwise, say nowt!
