Event Details
Tales from the Riverbank. A walk and talk: Erith coastal path and tidal Darent –
Join Amy Pryor of the Thames Estuary Partnership from Erith Station to Slade
Green station, taking in information about environmentalism, nature, the tidal
Thames and the sea.
Activity and talk: Pulling up Himalayan balsam, discussing invasive species in
rivers and misconnected plumbing that harms our waterways and wildlife. Joint
event between Thames21 and the Environment Agency.
Talk: Meet the Environment Agency as they showcase their work on how they
protect and improve our rivers.
Exhibition: Rain Gardens on the Wandle: Visit the Riverside Community Centre
case, Carshalton, and find out about the Wandle Rain Gardens project. Learn
how to make your own garden and neighbourhood more climate change
resilient, helping to protect the River Wandle's biodiversity too.
Reedbed installation with Thames21: Build and install a Thames21 floating
ecosystem. Eventbrite booking required. 20 places available.
Walk and Talk: Official opening ceremony of Stanmore Marsh Wetland, at the
end of a project between Thames21 and Harrow Council.
Talk: How Citizen Scientists are transforming London’s Rivers. Speakers from
London Wildlife Trust, Zoological Society of London and Thames21 give their
findings from their various research projects.
Eventbrite booking required.
Talk: Reedbed boat tour of the River Lea. A guided tour of reedbed installations
and their benefits to wildlife, via a short cruise along the River Lea, starting at
Thames21’s Bow Locks office and ending at the Crate Brewery.
Booking required. 45 people maximum.

Talk: Paddle Your Canoe with The Sharks Boat club and Thames21. This joint
event offers a taster session for the canoe club, giving participants the chance to
explore the river, while Thames21’s Paul Busby offers insights into water wildlife.
Talk and workshop: Rain Garden Masterclass: What makes a rain garden
different to a pond? How can they help London adapt to climate change? And
how are they linked to Lambeth's ‘lost’ River Effra? Find out in an evening with
London Wildlife Trust, including the opportunity to make a mini rain garden to
take home and put on your windowsill. All materials provided, booking essential.

Panel talk and discussion: Why restore rivers? An evening for developers and
construction project professionals to hear about the benefits, drivers and good
practice for river restoration across London, from experts covering flooding,
regeneration and planning/policy.
Walk and Talk: River Crane Restoration. Join London Wildlife Trust conservation
officer Tom White to find out how the River Crane has been recently improved
for wildlife. He will give a talk at the Shot Tower in Crane Park about the projects
he has overseen to improve the river. The talk will be followed by a 3 mile walk
upstream to visit newly improved sites on the river including Crane Park Island,
Pevensey Road, Causeway Open Space and Crane Meadows. Learn about a range
of river restoration techniques including riparian habitat enhancements,
backwater creation, meander connections and improvements using wooded
debris. The walk will finish at Hatton Cross station, convenient for trains and
buses.
Walk: River Crane, from source to Thames. This walk along the River Crane, of
about 7km, will take in Cranford Park and skirt Heathrow Airport before
travelling through Donkey Woods, Brazil Mill Woods and Pevensey Nature
Reserve. The route follows the river throughout and reveals a remarkable
environmental and historically interesting landscape corridor through urban west

Catchment, including the River Pool, and a discussion about the natural, social

and industrial history of the catchment by partnership co-ordinator Lawrence
Beale Collins. Starting at Sydenham on the River Pool, this moves along the river
pool until the confluence joins the Ravensbourne and continues to the Cutty Sark
at Greenwich.
