elcome to Unforgettable! We are excited and honoured to have you
join the Lyric Singers for this diverse concert of jazz music. Jane Ursan,
our Artistic Director and Regina Lyric Musical Theatre Lifetime Member, has
assembled an impressive array of selections for your listening pleasure. Thank
you, Jane, for all you do—for selecting a theme, choosing and ordering music,
arranging music, inviting musicians to play, and selecting, preparing, nurturing
and directing the ensemble.
Thank you to all the dedicated members of the Lyric Singers, our musicians,
production team, and front of house of volunteers. Rob Ursan is our narrator—

DIRECTOR’S NOTE
I
have always wanted to do a program of all jazz tunes. When I was growing
up, I listened to a lot of jazz records from my Dad’s record collection. My uncle was a professional jazz drummer who played for many of the big names in
jazz and had his own jazz group, Pacific Salt. In university, I played stand-up
bass in the U of R Jazz Band and my brother and I had our own jazz group
—Posh. My favourite singing group of all time is jazz fusion group Manhattan
Transfer, who I got to see live in 1981. So having some of my favourite jazz
songs performed by The Lyric Singers is a dream come true.
I have many people to thank: Lee Cowie and the Board of Regina Lyric Musical
Theatre for all their support and work; my accompanist Josh Hendricksen and
the rest of the band, Mark, Mark, Ryan, Eleanor, Meika, Mayson and Jonathon; my brother, Robert, for his immense talent and humour; and finally all of
the Lyric Singers, whose love of singing is an inspiration.
