This year, 2015, is a year of grieving for many Mediterranean countries affected by deadly attacks.
These are claimed by terrorist groups associated with the same entity that has a strong desire of
territorial anchorage in the Middle East, aimed at destabilising our populations and societies. These
attacks not only killed hundred of citizens, but also try, through the symbols they target, to weaken
our nations and our economies and the sense of belonging to a same Mediterranean space.
We, the Mediterranean local and regional elected representatives, strictly condemn these atrocious
actions, as well as instrumenting attempts these attacks are associated with. Today, we wish to
show solidarity with countries and citizen affected by these barbaric acts. Our thoughts also turn to
populations who live in war zones.
Today, we reiterate our commitment to actively promote solidarity and dialogue in our territories,
to preserve a culture of living together, and, more globally, to contribute to the construction of a
peaceful and prosperous Mediterranean space.
