Constitution Day Letter

September 16 is CONSTITUTION DAY September 16, 2016 Dear Parents, Each year, schools nationwide help students understand the U. S. Constitution and its significance by commemorating Constitution Day. This year marks 229 years from the original date the U. S. Constitution was signed in 1787. The U. S. Constitution is the second-oldest written constitution still in use by any nation in the world. The first three Articles establish the three branches of government: the legislative, the executive, and the judicial branch. The U. S. Constitution has been amended twenty-seven times; the first ten amendments are the Bill of Rights. Some well-known rights given to the American people through the Bill of Rights include those that guarantee freedom of religion, freedom of the press, freedom of assembly, the right to a speedy trial, trial by jury, and freedom from cruel and unusual punishment. Some of the most important amendments to the U. S. Constitution are the fifteenth, the nineteenth, and the twenty-sixth, which give all Americans over the age of 18 the right to voice their opinion on issues through voting. In addition to voicing opinion at the polls, voters also can let their opinions be heard through early voting 35 days before election day. At Donovan Elementary we are celebrating Constitution Day as teachers share read aloud books with their classes. One book that may be read is Sh…We are Writing the Constitution. Teachers will have a character discussion about Unity and Freedom. If you would like to learn more about the Constitution with your student, we encourage you to visit http://usconstitution.net/. Attached is a voter registration form for you to use in the event that you’re not currently registered to vote. Additional forms are available in any school office. If you are registered to vote, please feel free to pass the form along to a new neighbor or friend who may not be registered. Forms can be mailed to the Board of Elections or returned to any school office. An online registration form is available at www.warrencountyboe.us. October 11 is the last day to register for this November’s election. Sincerely, Clifton Franz Principal Voter Registration and Information Update Form

please contact your county board of elections.
Numbers 1 and 2 below are required by law. You must answer
both of the questions for your registration to be processed.

Your Signature
In the area below the arrow in Box 14, please write your cursive,
