PRODUCT INFORMATION
Description
Myeloperoxidase (MPO) is one of the most abundant proteins in neutrophils comprising 5% of the dry
weight of the cell. 1 MPO is stored in the azurophilic granules and released when neutrophils are stimulated.
MPO catalyzes the oxidation of chloride and other halide ions in the presence of hydrogen peroxide
to generate hypochlorous acid and other antimicrobial products.2,3 MPO is required for the neutrophil
extracellular trap (NETs) response.4 Activated neutrophils die and release NETs which are composed
of decondensed chromatin and anti-microbial proteins including MPO.5,6 The predicted size of MPO is
81.2 kDa and Cayman’s MPO (mouse) Polyclonal Antibody detects a band at approximately 80 kDa by
western blot.
