The TNO Trainee Programme gives starters with a broad

You have the ultimate opportunity to get to know our

and challenges lie. Our trainee programme focuses on broad
employability in jobs like technology system integrator,
consultant or business developer. Over a period of two years
you work on projects within three different expertise areas
and/or themes in all kinds of teams and roles. You broaden
your horizon in projects that cut across areas of expertise.
Of course, you will receive a high level of supervision through
coaching, intervision, training courses and workshops.

FINDING THE RIGHT PLACE
Bob Dirks always wanted to be an astronaut. As a
systems engineer in optical and space technology, he
has come surprisingly close to achieving his childhood
dream. “I wanted to broaden my horizons and engage
with disciplines that were new to me. That’s why I
chose TNO. After working in several focus areas, I’ve
returned to two old loves of mine: physics and space
travel. Putting quantum technology into space. There
are many opportunities here. The huge diversity of
disciplines and projects means that you’re never at a
loss for something new to do. You just have to find the
right place for you.”

TNO is a non-profit organization: we invest profit directly in
new innovations. Three-quarters of our revenue comes from
the assignments we undertake for government, industry and
NGO’s. And to develop the knowledge the Netherlands needs
for the longer term, the government makes a financial
contribution.

Within the expertise area Technocal Sciences top-quality
knowledge and sophisticated technology are employed to find
solutions for a whole range of technology challenges aimed
at real application.
In the other area of expertise, Earth, Lief and Social
Sciences, our scientists work on the relevant issues and
challenges. Social and behavioural issues also challenge our
behavioural scientists, psychologists and information experts
active within this expertise area.
Urbanisation

Energy

Pharmacist Sandra Guns works closely with physicists at TNO Optics. “Getting a complex project on
the rails is challeging. As a project manager, I
connect people and help create a climate in which
our scientists can excel. My unusual career path at
TNO has brought me a lot. I assumed I’d end up in
the medical world. Until I met some TNO people. A
traineeship gave me the opportunity to scout out
where my heart lay. Leading projects in different
fields is possible at TNO. I’m getting opportunities to
apply my knowledge in a totally new discipline.”
