What’s a ROOT WORD? — It’s the basic word which prefixes and suffixes can be added. — Can be found at the beginning, middle, or end of a word. — Root word = comfort — Prefix = uncomfortable — Suffix = comfortable “Flower Power” Roots to Learn: —  Flor means “flower” —  Foli/foil means “leaf” —  Dendr means “tree” or “branch” Suffix: -­‐ist —  The suffix –ist means “one who makes or studies.” —  Examples: —  Novel + -­‐ist = novelist (one who writes novels) —
