Hello –
My name is Oscar!
I am just a puppy and I came to the Home
with a broken leg. The vets fixed me up
and gave me a funky blue bandage! Have
you ever had a bandage on? Everyone
treats me really nicely – it’s great.
Having a broken leg means I can’t go for
a walk but I can relax in my kennel and
read this magazine, although the puzzles
are too hard for me. I like the pictures of
the cats!
Thank you for thinking about animals like
me who need extra care. But don’t worry
– I am going to a new family soon and
they will love me lots.
Enjoy the magazine – woof!

One of the best things about working here is
that we get to have playtimes with all of our
dogs. Each dog likes to play in a different way…
Patch is a collie crossbreed, and that breed
often love playing ball games. Patch has three!
He brings us the ball so that we can throw it.
Let’s
have fun!

Colette is a jack russell terrier. Terriers
like to rip up toys – especially ones with
a squeaky inside them. Terrier owners
know that it is important to let them do this, so
buy lots of toys and replace them once they are destroyed.

Duke is a lurcher – they are very fast dogs. He
spends most of his time asleep but when he wants to
play he is very quick! He likes to throw the ball around
for himself and we just enjoy watching him.

Quiet games to play with your dog...
Go Find!
Hide a toy somewhere in the house
and ask your dog to find it. Ask your dog to sit and wait whilst you hide the toy. Start
really easy and put the toy in plain sight and not too far
away. Give the command ‘go find it’ and encourage
your dog to get the toy. Praise when they reach the toy
with a ‘good boy/girl’ and when they bring it back to you
reward with a short play. Increase the difficulty by hiding
underneath cushions or newspapers, and work up
to hiding the toy in a different room.
Three Cups
Hide a smelly treat underneath
one of the cups, move them
around, and can your dog
find the right one? Ask your dog to sit whilst you
place the treat. When you
are ready, ask the dog to ‘go
find it’ and encourage him to
sniff and knock over the
cup to find the treat.
