Year Group: Year 3/4 Topic: Northern Geographic Term: Autumn Hook: Outdoor Learning: The Children will visit the woodland walk, where they will find a foot print. Where did it come from? The children will need to investigate. The children will explore the various habitats within the school grounds On our visit to Marwell Zoo, we will observe animals in their enclosures and compare them with the habitats these animals originally lived in. Key Curriculum Links: Science—Children will explore habitats of different animals from around the world. Trips/ Visitors: ICT— Having researched a favourite animal, children will create blogs and learn how to publish their work onto a website. Art— After taking photos at Marwell Zoo, the children will create their own artwork using collage to recreate the image in their photograph. English and Maths Links: National Geographic—The children will be writing a non chronological report based on an animal of their choice that they have researched. Marwell Zoo—Tuesday 30th September. More details to follow. Mrs Scott and her garden helpers will talk about the school’s habitats including the woods and the pond. Ongoing Learning: PE— The children will be thinking about animal movement and how we can interpret this using our bodies to balance and travel. RE—The children will discuss different places of worship around the world and the effect this has on our community. Outcomes: Parents will be invited to the launch of the blog website. The children's blogs and their fantastic artwork including photos and collages will go live online for all to see! There are some examples of how to approach each area of mathematics and there are also online games to help teach and revise each aspect. Notes for Parents: Weekly homework will be set for English and Maths and alongside this children will also need to read and learn their spellings and times tables.
