Week Ten
East Thurrock Firsts remain the only unbeaten team in the Mixed First Division as they won two
games in two days. They started with a 6-3 win over Greensward Firsts as Toby Andrews and Natalie
Smith and Leanne Wall and Alex Penny both won three rubbers each with Toby and Natalie not
dropping a set. Tim Baskett and Tracey Haylett, Robert Dunn and Sara Thompson and Graeme Hurry
and Mandie Breed each won a rubber for the visitors.
The next day they travelled to Westcliff Thirds where they picked up a 7-2 victory. Alex Penny and
Natalie Smith and Toby Andrews and Courtney Downey both won three out of three while John Hall
and Lucy Downey got one. Michael Clark and Jessica Toulson and Matthew Tonge and Emma Scott
got the points for the home side.
Elsewhere in the division, Eastwood Seconds narrowly missed out on their first win of the season as
they lost 5-4 to Greensward Firsts. Tracey Haylett and Tim Baskett and Sara Thompson and Robert
Dunn got two rubbers each and were supported by one from Mandie Breed and Graeme Hurry.
Laura Whiteman and John Kindred won all three of their games with Clare Roberts and Adrian
Watling getting one.
In the Mixed Premier Division, it was a second 9-0 win of the season for Leighway Firsts as they beat
Fitzwimarc Firsts. Viv Gillard and David Gotts and Catherine Bailey and John Masheter both won
three perfect rubbers with Karina Bye and Lee Miller also winning three.
Fitzwimarc Seconds made it four wins out of four in the Mixed Division Two with an 8-1 triumph over
Highlands Firsts. Malcolm Woodruff and Kera Lewis and Robert Cornish and Mair Dew both won
three rubbers out of three and Mike Vardy and Carole Braun secured two wins. Dawn and Will
Muggleton got the one for the home side.
SLH Rayleigh Seconds slipped to a second straight 9-0 defeat of the season as they lost at home to
Fitzwimarc Thirds. John Hobbs-Hurrell and Craig Walsingham picked up three perfect rubbers and
Adam Reader and Mike Vardy and Adam Peters and Ian Moorcroft also won all three of their
rubbers. Ryan Goldstone and Mike Smith did best for the home side.
Finally, it was a win in the Masters Premier for Westcliff Firsts as they defeated Fitzwimarc Seconds
5-1. Philippa Pearson and Barbara Childs won all their matches with Mark King and Roger Bellows
winning two each. Malcolm Woodruff and Robert Cornish got the one for Fitz.
