About Alicia Luc
Alicia Luc currently serves as the East Tennessee State University Residence Hall Association Advisor, a role
that she has served in for several years. She is a restorative leader that wants the students to ultimately run
their organization.
As part of her role as the Residence Hall Association Advisor, Alicia serves as a member of East Tennessee
State University’s Student Organization Resource Center team. The SORC team is responsible for both
enhancing communication between on campus organizations and increasing awareness of the range of
student organizations our campus has to offer to its students. In this role, she works directly with other
organization advisors, planning large events and giving RHA the opportunity to collaborate with a wide
variety of other student groups, including HEROES, Fraternity and Sorority Life, Student Government
Association, and more.
In addition to her role as RHA Advisor, Alicia also serves as an Area Coordinator for the Department of
Housing and Residence Life. In this role, Alicia supervises two graduate Resident Directors, one
undergraduate Assistant Resident Director, and two staffs of Resident Advisor. She is responsible for six
buildings, and maintains an on call schedule.

& To Thee We Pledge Our Hearts
Alicia’s Advising Style and Use of Restorative Practices
WHAT ARE RESTORATIVE PRACTICES?
“Restorative practices evolved out of the idea of restorative justice. The fundamental premise of restorative
practices is that people are happier, more cooperative and productive, and more likely to make positive
changes when those in positions of authority do things with them, rather than to them or for them.”
-The International Institute of Restorative Practices
“Alicia’s use of Restorative Practices allows her
to mold and grow great student leaders in a way
that makes the student really feel in charge of
their own development. She can have a tough
conversation with you without making you feel
guilty or at fault, which is something I’ve grown
to admire and appreciate.” - Stephanie, NCC
UNITY AND GROUP TRUST
Throughout the year, Alicia works with the Executive
Board and General Body to create a sense of unity and
group trust. Team building and group inclusion activities
aim to make each individual feel like a part of the
organization. Thus, members are more likely to not only
stay involved, but grow and contribute to the team.
TEAM DEVELOPMENT
WHEN THE GOING GETS TOUGH
At the beginning of the academic year, Alicia met
with the Residence Hall Association Executive
Board in order to develop a group understanding
of what each member of the Board was
responsible for. From there, the Board developed
a set of expectations and standards.
Every organization has its hiccups, and the East Tennessee
State University Residence Hall Association is lucky to have
Advisor Alicia Luc around when trouble arises.
Additionally, Alicia worked with the 2016-2017
Executive Board at the end of the Spring
semester to prepare them for the upcoming year.
The whole Executive Board took the Strength’s
Finder test and sent their results to Alicia, and
Alicia worked to prepare a packet of information
that the board worked through together. This
allowed to board to see each other’s leadership
When people aren’t getting along or there is trouble up
ahead, Alicia will do whatever it takes to ensure the
Residence Hall Association works through the issue.
Alicia will allow members who are disagreeing to talk
through their issues in her office, where she will act as a
facilitator. She will also help Executive Board members
talk through tough conversations in order to allow them
to develop without feeling hurt.
style, and how to better work together as a team.
Alicia used
Restorative Practices
to help the ETSU
delegation prepare
for NACURH 2016.

Sound The Chorus, Speed It Onward
Goals



Promote healthy group development and a home on campus

The ETSU Residence Hall Association is one of the largest student organizations on campus,
with diverse backgrounds and experiences

RHA aims to make every student feel welcome, no matter what walk of life the students
come from

RHA’s goal is to turn halls into homes for our students
Teach students the value of teamwork and conflict resolution

Students are going to interact with others on a daily basis, and need to be able to resolve
problems and issues without causing irreparable harm to a relationship

Students need to learn the importance of depending on others and delegating tasks when
appropriate
Encourage self reflection and leadership skill development through strength analysis and
goal setting


Students who capitalize on their strengths are more likely to make an impact rather than
those who are focus solely on their weaknesses

Students should be encouraged to set goals and objectives for their own personal
development
Let students truly run their organization

In an ideal world, the organization’s Advisor is there to offer support and a helping hand,
without running the organization on behalf of the students

Enthusiasm and support for the organization are higher when students feel like they are
being heard and valued
