January 16-20, 2017 Mrs. Elkins Newsletter Northside Elementary 601-932-7971 This Week: Reading: This week we will be continuing to learn about central message, moral, lesson and beginning, middle, and end of fairytales and fables. Some of the text we will use are: Goldilocks and the Three Bears/ Believe Me, Goldilocks Rocks!, Little Red Riding Hood/ Lon Po Po, and others. Homework Please read for 20 minutes every night with your child. Also study spelling and vocabulary words every night. Work on AR points! Monday- Language sheet Tuesday- Language sheet, Math worksheet, Spelling Sentences 1-7 Language: We will be learning more about adjectives on shape, size, and number. Math: We will be learning about place Wednesday- Language sheet, Math worksheet, and Spelling Sentences 814. value, word problems, and reviewing adding and subtracting two-digit numbers and working with three digit numbers. Thursday- Language sheet, Math worksheet, and Study. Social Studies: Students will continue learning about the water cycle and weather. Students will create a diagram of the water cycle and explain the process. Tests This Week: Friday-Reading, Vocabulary, and Spelling News The 100 Day of School is January 20th! These vocabulary words are from your child’s purple vocabulary workbook. There is a code highlighted inside their book that is a link for extra practice resources. 1. bench- (noun) a long seat for a few people 2. bridge- (noun) something that is built above and across water. People and cars can go over it to get to the other side. 3. cross- 1(verb) to go from one to side to another; 2 (adjective) angry or not pleased 4. crowd- (noun) a lot of people all together in one place 5. deep- (adjective) something that goes a long way down 6. fresh- (adjective) clean or new; cool or refreshing 7. frown- 1(verb) to move your eyebrows together and wrinkle your forehead; 2 (noun) an unhappy look on your face 8. signal- (noun) an action or sign that sends a message 9. travel- (verb) to go from one place to another 10. worry- (verb) a feeling that something bad may happen
