Job Title: Practicum Instructor - - Primary/Junior/Intermediate (Consecutive Program) Overview: This position is largely focused on leading the two foundational courses in Primary/Junior and Junior/ Intermediate Teacher Education programs (EDBE 8F01 Teaching in the Ontario Context, EDBE 8P02 Integrating, Teaching and Learning & Assessment) and the associated practicum (EDBE 8Y02 Practicum for Integrating, Teaching and Learning & Assessment) to support of development of teacher candidates as culturally responsive and competent learners. Duties Act as primary instructor for EDBE 8F01 Teaching in the Ontario Context , EDBE 8P02 Integrating, Teaching and Learning & Assessment and EDBE 8Y02 Practicum for Integrating, Teaching and Learning & Assessment and responsible for the successful delivery of all aspects of these courses; o As per standing instructor positions at Brock, instructors are responsible for student contact time and non-contact time. Contact time includes all classes as scheduled, observation days, internship days and practice teaching evaluations. The non-classroom work may include preparation of lecture material, student consultation, marking or grading, holding office hours, and other course administration as may be required such as attending required meetings; Attend 2 half days for community building with teacher candidates on structured observation days (Wednesdays); Participate in microteaching with teacher candidates at placement schools in December (2 weeks) as organized by Practicum Advisor; Collaborate with Practicum Advisor to plan structured observation days (Wednesdays) and microteaching; Collaborate with Placement Officer in arranging for/setting up placements; Coach/mentor teacher candidates and associate teachers; Evaluate teacher candidates during the January/February practicum (5 weeks) as part of the EDBE 8Y02 Practicum for Integrating, Teaching and Learning & Assessment; Use of a provided Brock email address for all Brock-related communications; and Complete the instructor’s online tutorial prior to first class (about 1 hour). Qualifications Normally a minimum of 5 years teaching experience; A Masters degree or other recognized specialization in the field such as a 3-level specialization; Demonstrated leadership in curriculum and/or education; Demonstrates currency in educational theory and pedagogy; Preference may be given to applicants with experience with teacher candidates or other adult learners; Competency in using technology for course management purposes; or A combination of education and experience matching and/or exceeding the above. Must hold an active membership in the Ontario College of Teachers, a valid Ontario Driver’s License, and pass a police vulnerable sector check (PVSC).
