oral report to the Bedford Board
of Education iast week, said that
the foreign language department
is involved in a transition to a
newer and better method of
teaching languages.
DISEASES FEW
WHITE PLAINS—
The Westchester County Depart
ment of Health has reported four
cases of communicable disease in
the northern part of the county
during the week that ended Oct.
6. They were one case of chickenpox in Somers; one case of serum
hepititis in Peekskill and two
cases of staphylococcus in Mount
Pleasant.
The new method is called the
audio-lingual method, explained
Dr. Chary, and emphasizes the
use of dialogues and drills on
basic sentence structure. Dr.
Chary declared that the greatest
value of the method is that it in
creases auditory and speaking
skills.
On The Horizon
Presenting a program for the
future, Dr. Chary proposed a
"Stream Level Plan" for Fox
r
Lane School which would give
students the opportunity to main
tain continuity in their language
program.
Dr. Chary also invited mem
bers of the board and townspeo
ple to the language department's
open house slated for Nov. 2 at
the Fox Lane School. The presen
tation, sponsored by the Fox
Lane Association and the lan
guage department, is designed to
acquaint parents and citizens
with the language program at
Fox Lane.
The open house is scheduled to
begin with an introduction by Dr.
Chary. New developments in the
teaching of languages will be one
of the topics of discussion along

her debut at the Tuxedo Autumn
Ball in 1958 and was a member
of the New York Junior Assem

She urged me to enter the con
