Take pride in housekeeping and other BMPs that prevent stormwater pollutants from contaminating the water and the environment. Know how to handle chemicals properly when unloading vehicles, handle drums or totes, store empty containers, and dispose of hazardous wastes properly. Learn how to maintain stormwater pollution prevention systems such as oil/water separators, how to keep storm drains clear, how to inspect these systems, and how to record our observations and actions. Help prevent spills, leaks, and drips, and respond to them effectively if and/or when they do occur. Blood Drive November 7th the Health and Wellness Committee will be holding its Blood Drive in the Sewer Rehab Break room from 1:00pm to 4:00pm. Sewer Rehab is located on the Public Works Yard. For directions, contact Rusty Whisenhunt or Sherri Poolaw at 581-3324. The success of this blood drive will determine how often the City will host blood drives. The plan is to have a blood drive every 6 months, rotating from Public Works to City Hall. Handy Household Hints This little idea came from a friend of mine; how to clean the plastic shield on your head lights without spending the money for expensive cleaner or new head light covers. If you can’t see your head lights thru the head light cover try using Deep Woods Off with 30% DEET. Using a old soft rag or paper towel spray the Deep Woods Off heavily on the rag, then wipe the head light cover, you will see the difference right away. I tried it and really worked. Last months winners were: Cherry Callas in first place. She found all the cat and dog breeds and won first place. Rose Wilson came in second finding all but 2 dog breeds and 2 cat breeds. This month is trickier because you can’t Google what a pet means to you. Good Luck! The Truth about Cats and Dogs A cat will almost never meow at another cat. Cats use this sound for humans. Cats love to hear the sound of their own name and your voice, so talk to them often. Developed in Egypt about 5,000 years ago, the greyhound breed was known before the ninth century in England, where it was bred by aristocrats to hunt such small game as hares. Sir Isaac Newton, who first described the principle of gravity, also invented the swinging cat door for the convenience of his many cats. At the end of the Beatles' song "A Day in the Life", an ultrasonic whistle, audible only to dogs, was recorded by Paul McCartney for his Shetland sheepdog. Cats can get "age spots". These are black spots on the skin that are often seen around the lips, eyes, and nose; and usually start when the cat is three to five years of age Dogs' eyes have large pupils and a wide field of vision, making them really good at following moving objects. Dogs also see well in fairly low light. The average canned or dry cat meal is the nutritional equivalent of eating five mice. Animal Welfare Pet of the This month we have a neutered male, impound number 93276. If you are interested in adopting him or his companions there, stop by the Lawton Animal Welfare Division located at 2104 SW 6th St. Their hours of operation are Tuesday thru Friday 11-6 (closed from 1-2 for lunch) and on Saturday 10-2. Or call them at 581-3218. If you are looking for a great pet, stop by the Animal Welfare and pick up a cat or dog looking for a forever home.
