SCHOOL UNIFORMS | FAQ WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF A SCHOOL UNIFORM? We believe that a school uniform serves several purposes. Uniforms build community among our students. Uniforms allow our students to keep their focus on learning. Uniforms distinguish our students in the greater community. WHY ARE WE CHANGING THE UNIFORM GUIDELINES? We are one school, educating students JK3–grade 12, and we want our uniform to reflect this. The school seal will be embroidered on all student uniforms instead of a separate logo for Oak Hill and a separate logo for Villa Duchesne. The number of options have also been overwhelming for families. The new guidelines, introduced with a 12-month transition period, are intended to reduce stress and costs by clarifying what apparel is required at each grade level. WHAT SHOULD STUDENTS WEAR FOR THE 2015-2016 SCHOOL YEAR? Students have the option to wear their current uniform, purchase all new items from Just Me Apparel, or wear a combination of current and new items. Villa Duchesne Classes of 2016, 2017, and 2018 may continue to wear their current uniforms through graduation. However, beginning in the 2016-2017 school year, all girls will be required to wear the maroon cardigan for special occasions. Review our Uniform Guidelines or Student-Parent Handbook for all of your options, but here are some of the highlights of the new uniform guidelines: All students will wear gray short- or long-sleeve polos embroidered with the school seal rather than alternating between gray polos and white polos with assorted logos. All girls JK3–grade 12 will have a gray fleece for everyday wear as needed and a maroon cardigan for special occasions. Boys in grades JK3-6 will continue to wear a navy fleece for everyday wear as needed and those in grades 3–6 (grade 2 after First Communion) will continue to wear the navy blazer for special occasions. The blazer can now be purchased at Just Me Apparel. All other outerwear options will be discontinued as of the 2016– 2017 school year. Girls in grades 4–5 will wear the existing plaid skirt instead of the jumper, recognizing their individual development. Students will now wear the same style of skirt through grade 8. Girls in grades 9–12 will wear a kilt with either white socks of any length or gray knee socks. The return of the kilt is a nod to our past and marks the transition to high school. HOW DO WE ORDER THE NEW UNIFORMS? Just Me Apparel is our exclusive uniform provider, including PE t-shirts personalized with student last names for grades 7–12. La Boutique will not sell uniform apparel after the 2014-2015 school year. You have several options if you want to order new uniforms. Attend Uniform Fitting Day on campus between 2:30–6 pm on Tuesday, May 19. Just Me Apparel will deliver your order to campus on Saints Start-Up Sunday, August 16, unless you prefer to pick up items at their store. Order your uniform online at Just Me Apparel; the website is being updated with the new uniform options. You can pick up your order at their store located at 232 Old Sulphur Springs Road, Manchester, 63021. Visit Just Me Apparel at your convenience for a student fitting and place your order. WHAT IF I ONLY NEED UNIFORMS FOR THE 2015-2016 SCHOOL YEAR? You may continue to wear our current uniform options for the coming school year. Many of the discontinued items can now be purchased from La Boutique at a 50 percent discount. Just Me Apparel is also offering discounts on discontinued items, but please remember that these items cannot be worn as of the 2016–2017 school year unless you are in Villa Duchesne Class of 2016, 2017, or 2018. WHAT SHOULD WE DO WITH OUR OLD UNIFORMS? We are collecting clean, gently-used school uniforms for students in need. You may deliver your items year-round to the Oak Hill School Office in the Duchesne Building or the Portry in the 1929 Main Building. 801 S. Spoede Road | Saint Louis, Missouri 63131 | 314.432.2021 | www.vdoh.org SCHOOL UNIFORMS Students are required to be in complete uniform from the first day of school until the final day of the school year unless the School designates an out-of-uniform day. The summer uniform options may only be worn from the first day of school through Mater’s Feast Day in October and again after Spring Break. The winter uniform options may be worn year round as needed. If students choose the white turtleneck option, it must be worn under a school fleece, sweater, dress, smock, or blazer. If girls choose the tights/leggings option, it must be worn with the school skirt, dress, or smock. T-shirts and undergarments should never be visible when in uniform. Also, brand logos, other than those of the School, should not be visible. Uniform items should be purchased from Just Me Apparel unless noted otherwise.
