Imperialism Histagrams In order to clear out those Winter Break cobwebs and refresh our memory on all that we’ve learned in this Imperialism unit, you will be creating a Histagram! With a partner (optional), you will choose a country or individual who we have learned about over the past month. They could include: China Matthew Perry David Livingston Japan Gandhi Rudyard Kipling England British Viceroy in India A political cartoonist India King Leopold II (Belgium) A British teenager Ethiopia Chief Kabongo (Kenya) Member of the Taiping First, create an outline on binder paper for your Instagram feed that includes all of the below criteria. Once you have an outline, check in with me for approval before starting on your butcher paper final product! 1. Profile Picture: A representative image of your country/figure 2. Histagram Handle: A username for your chosen country/figure 3. Biography on your profile: o Basic info about you/your country. o Creative quote that summarizes your perspective. o Emojis: Create 3 or more emojis to put in your bio that would describe your person 4. Followers: o Select 5 countries or “friends” from this unit’s textbook readings and lessons who you have allowed to follow your account. o Select 1 person/country who is a LIVING AND CURRENT political, economic or social figure who would follow your character’s Instagram. o Select 3 individuals (2 from the unit and 1 from today) who your person rejected their follow request. o Select one person who is a pending follow request. 5. Timeline: o Minimum 4 images uploaded by your person’s account. These images can be from other countries! You can post pictures about how “you” feel regarding things happening elsewhere in the world. Refer to the KBAT to remember the events! o Include a “filter” for each image. Name the filter according to how the mindset or “lens” for the certain image is “changed”/affected. (Ie, whose perspective are we looking at this picture through?) o Each image must include a caption that describes in detail the events portrayed in the image in the form of first person. o Include a #hashtag in each caption that captures the main idea of each image. Each photo should somehow indicate one of the 5 motives for Imperialism (remember: EmPIRE!) whether in the hashtags OR in the caption. o Include at least 12 comments and likes by specific friends (room for creativity here!) 5. Places: o Include the specific location of each photo. 6. Critical Thinking Questions: Answer on a separate piece of paper and put on the back of your project. ● What were the 5 motives for Imperialism? ● For your country/character, which was the strongest motive of Imperialism? Why? Justify your answer. ● How does the topic of Imperialism change based on the character/country you chose? ● Which event sticks out to you personally as the most significant event in this unit?
