East Flora Elementary 2016-‐2017 Summer Reading Packet Fifth Grade This packet belongs to ____________________________________________________ Dear Parents, We are excited to announce the Summer Reading List for East Flora Elementary. We are raising our expectations for our students. Students will be expected to read both fiction (make believe) and nonfiction (real) texts. In order for students to be prepared for the upcoming school year we must read, read, read. Students are expected to read a total of 4 books this summer: 2 fiction books and 2 nonfiction books. All students are required to complete a project on one of the books read. The reading packet has some suggested book titles and projects. Students may also read using www.myon.com as a tool for meeting their goal. A parent or sibling may be a reading partner with his/her child. It is important that children have opportunities to read stories and also time to listen to stories read by others. Students must complete a project on one of the books read. The project should be student focused. Parents may help with the project but not do the entire project. The Flora Library has many fun activities planned across the summer to encourage reading. Please visit the library often! Once students return in the fall, there will be a Summer Reading Celebration. Students must turn in their summer reading packets and project by Friday, August 5th at 7:45 a.m. If you have any questions, please call the school at 601.879.8724.
