Funeral services for Alvin Ashburn, 79, of Rt 1 Baxter, were held today at 2 p.m. at Baxter Funeral Home
with Bro Johnny Fox officiating. Burial was at Palmer Cemetery.
Mr. Ashburn died Saturday, May 10, 1986 at DeKalb General Hospital in Smithville.
A Putnam County native, he was born February 3, 1907. He was the son of the late Johnny and Caldonia
Herren Ashburn.
Mr. Ashburn was a member of Baxter Church of Christ and was a retired farmer.
His family includes his wife, Winnie Palmer Ashburn, two daughters, Wanda Herald and Nelda Hurst; a
son, Eugene, all of Baxter; two brothers, John of Baxter and Allie of Sparta.

Nov. 28, at 11 a.m. from the chapel of Baxter Funeral Home. Burial will be in Palmer Cemetery. Family
will receive friends today, Friday, Nov. 27, from 5-8 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 28, from 7 a.m. until time of
services at the funeral home. Mr. Ashburn died Thursday, Nov. 26, 2009, at Masters Health Care Center.
He was born Sept. 10, 1929, in Putnam County to the late Alvin and Winnie Jane Palmer Ashburn. His

Mrs. Ashburn died Feb. 10, 2007, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.
She was born Jan. 24, 1941, in Putnam County to the late Douglas and Pearl Dyer Bandy.
Mrs. Ashburn was a homemaker and a member of McBroom Chapel Church of Christ.
Her family includes her husband, Eugene Ashburn of Baxter; a son, Anthony (Tony) Ashburn of Baxter; a
daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Clifford Hysell of Nashville; a brother and sister-in-law, Wallace (Bud)
and Barbara Bandy of Algood; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Peggy and Jimmy Hunter of Algood and
Betty and Ben Nash of Baxter; three grandchildren, Amber Hysell Martin and Josh and April Hysell; and
three great-grandchildren, Kennedy Martin, Destiny Hysell and Braydon Hessen.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Ashburn was preceded in death by her brother, Bill Bandy.

Mr. Bowman died on Mon., Dec. 20, 1999, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.
He was born on April 17, 1936, in Beattyville, Ky. to the late Floyd and Lillie Vires Bowman. Mr.
Bowman was a construction worker and a member of Jehovah's Witnesses.
His family includes his wife, Marie Bowman of Silver Point; a son and daughter-in-law, Allen and Shawna
Bowman of Baxter; four brothers, Clyde, Virlin and Lee Bowman, all of Indiana, and Virgil Bowman of
Michigan; three grandchildren and one on the way; and several nieces and nephews.

He was born June 25, 1946 in Columbia, South Carolina to the late Robert
Graley Elrod, Sr. and Ann Sinkavich Elrod.
He lived at Baxter Seminary Boys Dormitory for three years and
attended Upperman High School.
He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War.

former owner of a general insurance agency.
His family includes his wife, Frances Hayes of Cookeville; two brothers, Toy and Alton Hayes, both of
Silver Point; two sisters, Flossie Bessie Hammock and Myrtle Hayes, both of Silver
Point.

Mrs. Herd died on Sat., June 16, 2001, at the Cookeville Regional Medical Center.
She was born Feb. 15, 1913, in Putnam County to the late Isaac and Florence Materlie Chambers.
Mrs. Herd was a homemaker and a member of the Silver Point Church of Christ.
Her family includes her son and daughter-in-law, J.D. and Fredia Herd from Silver Point; her daughter,
Hilda Tucker Smith from Silver Point; two sisters: Opal Napier from Indiana and Emogene Dickens from
Gallatin; six grandchildren: Myrna Anderson, Mark Herd, Larry Tucker, Ronda (Sudie) Huddleston, Pat
Sponangle, Johnny Tucker; 12 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Herd was preceded in death by her husband Armstrong Herd; three sisters:
Arlie Hayes, Norma Ramsey, Mattie Rippetoe; and a brother, Monroe Chambers.

Mr. Huddleston was an engineer for CSX Railroad.

several nuclear plants in the Southeast Region.
His family includes his wife of 40 years, Una Gentry Lafever of Baxter; two sons and a daughter-in-law:

Ernest Palmer, Thurman Palmer, Byron Lewis Palmer, John Byrd Palmer, and James Palmer.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Ken and Kelly Roberts SR of Cookeville; four
grandchildren, Kenneth Roberts, JR, Lora Roberts, Jennifer (Patrick) Tommaso, and Jacob Roberts; five
great grandchildren, Andrea, Aiden, Katie, Kal-El Tommaso, and Candi Greenwood; three great-great
grandchildren, Paul, David, and McKinze Greenwood; sister, Dixie Helms of Baxter, brother, Jack (Sophia)
Palmer of Highland, MI; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was a wonderful, devoted, wife, mother, grandmother, and sister who was loved by all.

Point, will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 29, from the Baxter Chapel of
Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Interment will follow in
Palmer Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until time of services on
Saturday at the funeral home.
Mr. Stewart died Wednesday morning, Dec. 26, 2012, in Kindred
Transitional Care and Rehabilitation-Masters in Algood.

He was born June 18, 1919, in Putnam County,
Mr. Stewart was a retired heavy equipment operator in major road construction. When construction began
to build Center Hill Dam, he was one of the first men hired and worked there until it was completed.
During World War II, he went to Detroit and worked in a factory to repair airplanes damaged in battle.
After returning to Tennessee, he had a farm and raised cattle.
His family includes a daughter and son-in-law, Geraldine and Gary Leftwich of Cookeville; two
grandchildren, Lisa and her husband, Thomas Jones, Stewart and his wife, Melinda Leftwich, all of
Cookeville; seven great-grandchildren, Sarah Elizabeth Jones, Ethan Thomas Jones, Matthew Gary Jones,
Emma Catherine Grace Jones, Olivia Caroline Leftwich, Luke McGlasson Leftwich and David Sullivan
Leftwich; and a brother and sister-in-law, Lenard and Tina Jones of Dade City, Fla.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Nola Irene Thomas Stewart (who died Aug. 26, 1997); a
brother, Coolidge Jones; two sisters, Pearl Maxwell and Aldona Stoll.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.

Mr. Tucker died Monday, Feb. 16, 2015, at his home.
He was born June 21, 1956, in Carthage to the late Bradley “Brad”and Ada Malone Tucker.
He was a graduate of Upperman High School in Baxter. He was an avid tobacco farmer and logged with his
brother, Ronnie for 37 years.
Mr. Tucker loved fishing and liked to go to Dollywood. He was a member of Silver Point Baptist Church.
Survivors include wife of 28 years, Valissa Shively Tucker of Silver Point (whom he married Oct. 31, 1986
in Carthage); a daughter, Tracy Tucker of Silver Point; a son, Casey Tucker of Silver Point, a special sisterin-law, Shelley Tucker of Buffalo Valley; and special friends, Willodean Scruggs and Mark Pedigo.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Tucker was preceded in death by a sister, Linda Tucker; and five brothers,
Jimmy, Jerry, David, Danny and Ronnie Tucker.

BAXTER — Funeral Services for Ronnie Tucker, 54 of Buffalo Valley will be held Monday, May 26 at 2

Mr. Tucker died Wednesday evening, May 21, 2014 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center from injuries
sustained in a logging accident in Silver Point earlier that day.
He was born August 31, 1959 in Carthage, TN to the late Bradley “BRAD”and Ada Mildred Malone
Tucker.
He attended Upperman High School.
He was a farmer and worked in the logging industry for many years. He loved to deer hunt, fish and work
with his mules, mares and wagons.
He was a wonderful husband, father, grandpa, brother and uncle, he loved his family and spending time
with them.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a granddaughter Breanna Tucker, sister Linda
Tucker, brothers Jerry, Jimmy, David and Danny Tucker.
Survivors include wife of 30 years Shelley Sullivan Tucker (whom he married June 11, 1983 in Putnam
County), daughter Amber Tucker of Silver Point, son and daughter-in-law Brandon and April Tucker,
brother and sister-in-law Donald and Valissa Tucker all of Buffalo Valley, grandchildren: Brittany Tucker,
Kaitlyn Carr and Tucker Troglin and a host of nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
