UEN Tools and Resources
ULMS and UELMA are finalizing a state-level evaluation
tool for school librarians, working towards having it
adopted by USOE. Join us as we review where the
evaluation tool is at this point and look towards adoption
by the state.
Coteaching will soon become the central element of the
school library program. My recent research study
demonstrates a powerful impact on achievement. The
presenter will explain why teacher librarians who lead
such an initiative will become indispensable in their
schools.
Teen Advisory Groups keep you connected to your
patrons and make it easier for you to design, plan, and
execute successful programs. This session will show you
how to TAG your library by taking you through the process
of determining your TAG goals.
This presentation will share information concerning the
revision that is taking place on the state core for
elementary schools. Participants will be asked to provide
feedback on the current draft of the revised standards in
order to further guide the process.
World Book has recently made some excellent
enhancements that will benefit students and educators. A
brief overview of these new resources will be covered in
this session including teacher activities, videos, and
games.
Students from 2nd-12th grade can benefit from learning
how to ask questions that will open their inquiry to more
questions. Strategies, examples, practice and feedback
will be provided in this session.

Tiffany Hamilton Hall has loved libraries all her life…even more after she forged her dad’s signature on the
card so she could go into the ‘real’ section of the library and start reading ALL the books. The amount of
knowledge and wonder in those four walls has never left her. Working with the library technology teachers
makes her happier than when Neil Gaiman publishes a new book.

Free Little Library Project
A Free Little Library is a little mini library set up in a community or neighborhood that does not
have ready access to a public library. It is a little “box” set up in someone’s yard where people
from the surrounding area can come and pick up a book to read. They can get a book and leave a
book. No membership, fees, or anything like that is required. The Free Little Library is a
worldwide movement. The goal is to promote literacy and love of reading by building free book
exchanges worldwide. (http://littlefreelibrary.org/ourhistory/)
Anyone can stop and pick up a book or two and leave a book or two to share. It is my hope that
it will also be a great gathering place for the neighborhood/area it is placed in.
Building the Little Library “box” also makes a great Eagle Scout project! This is just one way to
foster literacy, reading and community spirit.
I am so excited to have been asked to participate in this project! I have my “charter” and a
cute sign to put on “my” Free Little Library. I will place this one somewhere in the south end of
Utah County, in an area that is mostly rural. I feel strongly that children especially need easy
access to reading materials.
UELMA Thanks you for your generous donations towards our 2015 Service Project!
