Let’s Sew
Booking a Class
Foundation classes where you will learn how to
use your machine.
Level: beginner
Cost - £30
All classes must be paid for in full at the time of booking.
Payments for all classes are non-refundable and are nontransferable unless we are able to fill your place.
Essential Class Info:
1. Within 1 week of booking we will e-mail you the list of
materials required (all are available to purchase from
the shop) and cutting out instructions. Please contact
us ASAP with any queries.
2. Purchase all materials before coming to the class.
3. Apart from Next Step Up classes, it is essential that all
cutting out is done at home (unfortunately we do not
have the facilities for cutting out during the class).
4. It helps to bring your own sewing machine but if you
need to use one of ours please let us know.
5. For all classes (apart from Know Your Machine) you will
need to know how to use a sewing machine.
6. To save time we advise that you wind your bobbin and
thread your machine at home.
7. Arrive 10 min early so you can get set up. It will give
you more time for learning the sewing techniques the
class is aimed at.
8. During each class you will make the item we have
designed and to the dimensions we have specified.
By booking a class you agree to all the conditions set out
above.

Know Your Machine





Learn all about your machine’s different
parts, how to thread your machine,
which stitches and settings to use,
buttonholes and how to troubleshoot
the most common problems. You will
be given notes to take home for future reference.
Materials required – thread, 50cm x 50cm scrap fabric (an
old pillowcase is perfect), your sewing machine’s manual
and any attachments you have.
Know Your Overlocker
Wednesday 25th January – 7pm to 10pm

Bring along your overlocker and learn all
about it’s different parts, how to thread
it, which stitches and settings to use and

Crazy For Cushions
Learn how to create fabulous cushions
to personalise your home. Make either
a plain cushion or a two tone cushion
using complementary fabrics and
complete the look with buttons on the
back.
Materials required – 50cm x115/137cm of fabric for plain
cushion (or 50cm x 115/137cm of Fabric A and 50cm x 50cm
of Fabric B for two tone cushion), thread, 3 or 4 buttons,
50cm ribbon or trim (optional).
‘Lizzie’ Totally Tote Bag
If you love bags this is for you. Make
your own fully lined bag with basic
machine appliqué decoration.
Materials required – 50cm x 115/137cm
of main fabric, 50cm x 115cm/137cm of
fabric for lining and appliqué, thread,
15cm x 15cm Bondaweb, medium weight
interfacing (optional).
Apron
Sew a pretty reversible apron with
gathered frill skirt. Great to keep at home
or would also make a fabulous gift.

Bunting
Learn how to make beautiful
bunting - a great decoration for
any room or event.
Materials required – at least 4
fabric fat quarters, 3m bias
binding, thread.
Apart from being really useful, drawstring
bags are very decorative too. You will
learn how to sew a bag with basic
machine appliqué detail.
Materials required – 50cm x 112/137cm
fabric (or two different fabric fat
quarters), fabric scrap for appliqué, 4m
ribbon, 15cm x 45cm Bondaweb, thread.
‘Ellen’ Storage Baskets
The perfect storage solution and so pretty too! You choose
which size to make - small H 15cm x D
14cm, medium H 21cm x D 19cm, Large H
29cm x D 24cm.
Materials required – 25(30; 40)cm x
112cm outer fabric, 25(30; 40)cm x 112cm
outer fabric, 2/3 packs heavy weight interfacing, 2m
ribbon/webbing, thread.
Door Stop
Doorstops are great for adding a personal
touch to a room. In this class you will sew
a doorstop with carry handle and add
some simple machine appliqué.
Materials required – 2 co-ordinating
fabric fat quarters, 1kg bag of rice, 100g
soft polyester filling, thread.

Sewing Machine Cover

Notebook Cover
A useful treat for yourself or a
unique gift.
Sew a lightly
padded notebook cover with

Techniques – Piping

Saturday 1st April – 9am to 11am
Piping looks great along the
edges of cushions, soft
furnishings
and
clothing.
Discover how simple it is to
achieve by creating a small
cushion.
Materials required – 50cm x 50cm fabric (or 50cm x 25cm
of 2 complementary fabrics), 1.5m bias binding, 1.5m piping
cord, thread, 250g soft toy filling.
Techniques –Bias Binding


Saturday 1 April – 9am to 11am
By sewing a needle book and
finishing off the edges with bias
binding you will learn this very
useful technique which can be
used to decorate many soft
furnishings and items of
clothing.
Materials required – 50cm x 30cm fabric (or 2 contrasting
fabrics 25cmn x 30cm), 1m bias binding, 21cm x 30cm felt,
25cm x 30cm 2oz wadding, thread.


Saturday 1 April – 9am to 11am
By sewing a simple make up
purse or pencil case, you will
learn the basic skills required for
inserting a zip. The same method
may be used for dressmaking,
bags, cushions and so much
more.


Tuesday 7th March – 7pm to 9pm
Learn how to draw with your sewing

Techniques – Concealed Zip


finish to garments or cushions. Make
either a plain or
geometric
patterned 18”/46cm square cushion
cover with a concealed zip on the
bottom edge.
Materials required – background fabric,
fabric scraps, contrasting thread, light
weight iron-on interfacing, Bondaweb, free motion
embroidery foot for machine.
Materials required – 50cm x 112cm/150cm fabric for plain
cushion or 4 co-ordinating fat quarters for geometric
patterned cushion, 16” concealed zip, concealed zipper foot
for machine, thread.

How to Use Jersey/Stretch Fabric


Saturday 11 February – 9.30am to 11.30am
Sewing with stretch fabric can be
daunting but it needn’t be. We will
show you how to cut out, stabilise
your fabric, and tackle seams,
facings, hems and so much more.
Materials required – scraps of jersey
fabric, thread, light weight interfacing, 50cm hemming
tape.

How to Alter a Pattern


If you know how to follow a
pattern, this is the next step. Find
out how to adjust a pattern to fit
different body shapes and also how
to customise patterns.

Roman Blind

Curtains - £30

Wednesday 22nd February – 10am to 1pm
Curtains are a great way to dress a
window and are simple to make.
Due to space and time constraints
you will make a small sample
curtain and we will show you how
to measure up, work out how much
fabric you need and sew a lined curtain with header
tape.

Newcomers to dressmaking

dressmaking knowledge sew a
dress, lined skirt or trousers.
Or extend your dressmaking skills with a few
advanced techniques whilst sewing a jacket or lined
dress.

Disappearing 9 Patch Quilt Top
Stargazer Quilt Blocks
Stunning and simple, this is the
perfect starter project for anyone
wanting to learn to quilt. The

Stargazer Sampler Quilt – Block 1

All Squared Up Jelly Roll Quilt Top
An eye-catching modern quilt
top made from a jelly roll. Sash
the blocks with a plain fabric to
easily create a quilt that will get
noticed.
Materials required – jelly roll,
1.25m x 112cm plain fabric, thread,
quarter inch foot for machine.
How to Back a Quilt
Backing and binding a quilt top is the
final stage before your quilt is ready
to use. This class will teach you the
techniques you will use over and
over again.
Materials required – completed quilt top, wadding, backing
fabric, bias binding/binding fabric, thread.
Materials required – 1 fabric fat quarter each of 5 different
patterned fabrics, 1 plain fabric fat quarter, light-weight
sew in interfacing, thread, 14”/36cm scrap fabric, friction
pen.
Stargazer Sampler Quilt – Block 2

