WEEK FOUR DAY 1 READ Numbers 14:6-9 Joshua and Caleb must have felt pretty lonely as they stood among all the other men, the only ones willing to be courageous. But it must have also been frustrating to see others not putting their trust in God to save them. Instead of throwing in the towel and going with the crowd though, Joshua and Caleb stood strong and stayed brave. Go back and reread the Scripture again. Count how many times Joshua and Caleb talked about God (hint: look for “he’s and “him’s!). Write that number here Now read Numbers 13:28-33 and see how many times the rest of the group mentions God. Write that number here Wow! It’s easy to see why Joshua and Caleb could be brave when no one else was—they have their focus on God, not the enemy! THANK God that His presence means you can be brave, even if no one else is. Answers: 5, zero! READ Daniel 3:16-17 DAY 2 Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego knew that disobeying the king’s orders might mean serious consequences. But they could be brave and stand up to the king because they trusted that their big God was able to protect them. Their faith in God allowed them to be brave when no one else was. They were able to keep their focus on Him and not the situation they were in or what everyone else around them was choosing to do. Find a room in your house that has a few pillows. Start on one side of the room and try to see if you can use the pillows to make your way to the other side of the room without touching the floor. Pretend it’s hot lava or hot sand that will burn your feet. Only the pillows are safe. If you want, invite other people to play with you. When you get to the other side, see if you can remember the definition of courage and shout it out! ASK God to give you the courage to focus and trust Him no matter what. ©2013 The reThink Group, Inc. All rights reserved. READ Psalms 56:3-4 DAY 3 Worrying about what other people are doing, or what they’re thinking, is normal. But it’s not how we should live our lives. When we trust in God, it doesn’t matter what others think or say, we can be strong and courageous. Try to trace the letters below with a pen or marker, but look away while you’re doing it. Look all around the room… at what other people are doing… at all the things you need to do… When you’re done, look down. How’d you do? Probably not so great, because you were looking at what everyone else was doing. Now trace the letters again with a different color pen, this time focusing on the words and taking your time. It’s amazing the difference when you’re focused on TRUSTing IN GOD, isn’t it?! TRUST IN GOD KNOW that when you’re focused on trusting in God, you don’t even notice if you’re the only one being brave. Read Psalms 27:1 DAY 4 Just like Joshua and Caleb could be brave when others weren’t because the two men put their trust in God, you can choose faith and courage too! Grab a flashlight and another person to play this game. Find a dark corner so they will be able to see the light clearly. Use your flashlight to “draw” one letter of the word “Brave” at a time on the wall or ceiling—pausing after each one for them to try and guess it. When they think they know what word you’re spelling, they can shout out the answer. If they’re right, then it’s their turn to use the flashlight. See if they can spell the name of someone they think is brave using the light, while you try to guess the letter they are drawing and the whole word. Take turns going back and forth. It can be fun even when it’s dark when there’s someone else with you. And the light from the flashlight helps you to feel safe too. You know there’s no reason to be afraid. You can be brave. LOOK at all the different types of lights around you and thank God for helping to make things clear and safe. ©2013 The reThink Group, Inc. All rights reserved.
