welcome to transportation - Saint John Vianney High School

WELCOME TO TRANSPORTATION:
BUSING TO SAINT JOHN VIANNEY HIGH SCHOOL
GENERALLY COMES
DIRECTLY FROM YOUR
RESIDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT.
THIS IS THE TOWNSHIP TO WHICH YOU PAY YOUR
TAXES.
GENERAL TRANSPORTATION INFORMATION and FAQ’s
WHO IS ELIGIBLE FOR BUSING?
In most cases, if your resident school district provides busing for the public school students they will also
provide busing for their students attending private/parochial school. You must live more than 2 ½ miles from
SJV in order to receive transportation from your township. If your resident school district does not provide
busing, they might provide aid in lieu (see below for explanation) for their students attending
private/parochial school.

WHAT IS “AIDE IN LIEU”?
“AIDE IN LIEU” is payment made directly to the parent/guardian of a student who is eligible for busing from
their resident district but no bus will be provided. The district will then provide aide in the form of payment to
compensate your transportation costs or a portion thereof. To receive this, you must live more than 2 1/2
miles but less than 20 miles from your door to Saint John Vianney High School. If you are unsure of this
distance, we recommend that you use a map site such as Google or MapQuest and also verify with your
resident district.
Parents and students can then decide to use that aide in lieu payment towards SJVHS private busing (if
available for your area) or arrange their own transportation. The 2016-2017 aide in lieu amount was $884 per
year from most districts. This arrangement is between the parent/guardian and the district. Aide in lieu can
only be requested from the district of your student’s legal home address. Again, consideration for
reimbursement must meet specific guidelines as per your resident sending district.
DOES SJV PROVIDE PRIVATE BUSING?
Yes. SJV has busing that currently runs through several areas where busing is not provided through the
resident districts. The current charge for the 2016-2017 school year is $1000. This is payable in two equal
installments due in July and the following March. Many of our privately bussed students receive aide in lieu, if
they lived within 20 miles of SJV, which covers most of this expense (current reimbursement is $884 from
most townships).
For the current 2016-2017 school year, SJVHS has 4 private bus routes:
* A route that goes through Howell and a hub stop at the GSP Exit 100 Monmouth Rest Area
* A route goes through Farmingdale and also has two hub stops in Jackson. One at Romeo Plaza on New
Prospect and one at BubbaKoo’s Burritos on N. County Line Road,
* A route that goes through the Long Branch/ Little Silver/Atlantic Highlands areas.
* A route that goes through Keansburg/Keyport/Matawan areas (fee is $500).
WHEN ARE BUS ROUTES AVAILABLE?
Bus routes are planned by your township after all B6T forms are submitted by us and verified. Bus routes are
designed over the summer and available in August. Some townships send out bus passes by mail and others
will notify you via email. Certain townships will require you to call mid-August for your busing information. If
you have not heard from your township by mid –August, we recommend that you contact your resident
district Board of Education Transportation Department.
Some exceptions:
Middletown Township transportation information is available by accessing the website Middletownk12.org.
Old Bridge Township does not issue bus passes. Students/parents will need to call Old Bridge Board of
Education/Transportation Department at 732-360-4502 for bus route information.
