● 6.30 Identify and locate on a map the geographical features of China, including the Huang He (Yellow) River, Plateau of Tibet, and Gobi Desert. ● 6.31 Locate and describe the origins of Chinese civilization in the Huang­He Valley during the era of the Shang Dynasty. ● 6.32 Explain how the regions of china are isolated by geographic features, making governance and the spread of ideas and goods difficult, and served to isolate the country from the rest of the world. 1. Since students are beginning to
discuss argumentative essays in their
ELA class, we will begin them in social studies. ● Prompt: Which of the civilizations that we have studied (Mesopotamia, Egypt, India) have impacted the U.S the most? Make sure to list at least three reasons as to how it has impacted us today. Use evidence from the articles and notes we have used in class.
2. Students have 90 minutes to prewrite
and type their essay on Google Docs.
3rd block:
1. Students will log onto their ck12
account and click on the article titled
“Ramayana.” We will read and
discuss this as a class. Students will
then open the article titled
“Mahabharata.” We will also read and
discuss this as a class.

4th block:
1. I will hand each student a blank piece
of paper and students will fold it into
thirds. I will tell students that their
travel brochure must have the

Introduction to ancient China. http://mrnussbaum.com/world­nations/china/ Students will use their ChromeBooks to go to the website above and view a physical map of China. Students will be instructed to click on and read the information on the following features: Yellow River, Yangtze River, and Tibet, and Gobi Desert. 2. After students have studied and read the information on China’s geographical features, I will hand each student a blank map and ask them to label the following features: Yellow River, Yangtze River, and Tibet, and Gobi Desert. 3. Students will be instructed to log onto their ck12 account and open the document titled “6.31.” With their partner, students will read and follow the instructions on the article. Using your map and what you have learned about China’s geography, explain how regions of China are isolated by their geographic features. Include how this isolation makes it difficult for the spread of Chinese ideas and goods to the rest of the world AND how it is difficult for other ideas and goods to come to China. 3rd block: 1.
