Hope you enjoyed Rita's workshop trunk show and Judy's tips. Rita got a good
response on what workshops you would like to see. We will try to get this information
to you real soon for the rest of the year on when a workshop will be so you can get it
on your calendar.
I want to thank again all of the people who helped with the quilt show. This includes
both our members and non-members who pitched in and helped. We could not have
been successful with our first judged show (in years) without everyone's help. If you
couldn't make this month's meeting here's a quick recap of the numbers:
456 people attended - take in at admissions was $2,280.00
Bazaar made $2,356.85.
Silent Auction made $738
Quilt Entries took in $1020
Giving a total intake of $6,674.85
1
On expenses we are still waiting on the invoice for the programs. Also had to
take back some of the stands that were not made to our specs, so I don't know what
the bottom line cost of this will be yet as we are to get some credit. But right now we
are to the good with $981.83.
This might not seem like much, but we did have some expenses this year that we
won't have next year. We needed more sheets to put on the larger show and more
equipment (poles, bases and connectors) which comes to a little over $2,000.
The guild did vote on having another show in 2017 which will be Feb. 17-18. Judy and
Cindy have agreed to chair / co-chair the show with Rita doing entries again. Jerry
and I will do the set-up and take-down again too (assuming all of you folks who helped
this year will be ready and able to do so next year!!).
Start working now on your entries to the show for next year. Everyone in the guild
should have something in the show either as a judged quilt or for display only. You all
are talented, so no excuses.
Remember to review the by-laws in the directory. If you see something you think
should be changed, please notify me or any other member on the board as we want to
make any changes before the printing of the next directory.
Hope to see some of you at the next Sew-In on Feb. 5th from 1p.m. to 10p.m.
In the meantime, Happy Quilting, Karen.
Homespun Quilters’<> Guild Board Meeting Minutes
Homespun Quilters’ Guild Board Minutes
January 11, 2016
Present: Karen Woodard, Judy Mathews, Tina Dekle, Clara Jean Matustik, Karen Curlee,
Jeraldine Fellbaum, Karen Fleuriet, Evelyn Hackney, Joyce Jones, Cindy Bruce, Jerry
Mitchell, Melva Magee, and Debbie Dewey.
Meeting called to order at 6 PM by Karen Woodard.
Karen Woodard needed a correction made to the previous Board Minutes: TAQG will be July
9th, not July 17th.
A motion to approve amended minutes was made by Clara Jean, 2nd by Evelyn.
Old Business:
 Membership: Joyce reported that we now have 105 members.
 Programs: Tina reviewed the upcoming programs. All programs are booked for 2016,
but she is trying to arrange for Hobbs to be at our June “Challenge” meeting.
o She also wants to give Evelyn the first choice of dates for the Community
Service nights for 2017.
o She is trying to book Moda, RJR or Superior Threads.
 Raffle Quilt 2015: Final intake was $2,256. Our goal was $2,000.
 Raffle Quilt 2016: Sales was $700 at the Shop Hop.
 Raffle Quilt 2017: The Material Girls Bee will be making it. They are thinking about a 2
color quilt, possibly with appliqué.
 TAQG: Judy brought 2 books authored by the July 9th speaker, Kimberly Einmo.
2

Community Service: Evelyn wants to ask members to bring their machines even if they
have signed up to iron or cut so there will be enough machines for those who did not
know or remember to bring theirs.
o Evelyn made a donation quilt from the Guild for Care Net to auction off at their
BBQ Jan. 17th .
o There are 30 donation quilts that need to be quilted and 70 tops to be pieced.
 Karen Woodard will be reviewing the equipment issue with the Waco Advanced
Manufacturing Academy. Hopefully there will be adjustments made to our $1549 bill
since 2 stands broke during set-up, and some weren’t done the correct size.
 Karen Curlee will present $15 and $10 gift cards to the 1st and 2nd place winners of the
Cabin Block Challenge at the Guild meeting on Monday, January 18th.
o There are enough blocks to make 2 quilts, one of them being whimsical.
o She will take the Raffle Quilt to the Salado quilt shop during their Shop Hop.
o She will announce at the Guild that members are encouraged to take it to other
Guilds or events to sell tickets. There are still some who haven’t taken their
tickets.
 Quilt Show 2016 recap: Karen Woodard reported on overall positive response to the
show. Some people still grumbled about paying to enter the Shop Hop and then pay
again to enter the Quilt Show.
o There was $920 taken in for quilt entries; Show admissions $2,330; Bazaar
Booth $2356.85; Silent Auction $708. After expenses she estimates about
$1500 in profits. Future shows should fare better since all of the equipment will
be paid for.
o Karen Woodard was not pleased with the advertising wording in the Co-op.
o Chair people need to submit their reports to Judy and Cindy for future shows.
o It was reported that people were looking for baby quilts in the Silent Auction.
o Karen Curlee suggested that we check with Boy Scouts, ROTC, and Ag students
to help with the take down process and returning the equipment to the storage
unit.
o There was a suggestion to print a larger font for the numbers on the Quilt Show
pillowcases.
 Quilt Show 2017: If the Guild wants to have a show next year, the dates would be Feb.
17th and 18th.
o Judy and Cindy will co-chair; Karen Woodard will oversee set-up and take down;
Rita Schormann will do the entries again.
New Business
 Review the by-laws in the directory and have updates for the Feb. board meeting so we
can present and vote on them at the Feb. Guild meeting.
 Start thinking of candidates for upcoming board replacements.

Tell Me Again What TAQG is???
As a confederation of quilt guilds in North, Central and East Texas, the TAQG
serves as a resource to local guilds in matters ranging from getting federal tax
exempt status, to dealing with bylaw issues, to putting forth interesting and
meaningful programs and activities. For example, did you know that cash
grants are available for small guilds for speakers, programs and even
equipment? TAQG exists to serve, and to promote the exchange of ideas
among member guilds. We celebrate quilting, and encourage quilting activities,
all the while promoting friendship, mutual aid and common interest. And your
key to the wealth of TAQG knowledge and experience is your guild's TAQG
representative.
--Marsha Meeks, President 2016
TAQG Rally Day is July 9th, 2016. A fun day with a nationally known speaker,
beautiful quilts, fabulous door prizes, miniature quilt silent auction, goodie bags,
and the opportunity to meet fellow quilters. The speaker is Kimberly Einmo, who
makes wonderful innovative quilts from fabric pre cuts.

THE BUZZ ABOUT BEES
Contact: Linda Buckner, Bee Keeper, [email protected]
The Homespun Quilters’ Guild sponsors many quilting bees to which members can belong.
There are bees that meet at night as well as bees that meet during the day. Some bees may
be highly organized where there is always some kind of group effort going on, and there are
very “hang-loose” bees whose members simply enjoy getting together to sew, talk and
maybe eat! Some bees meet in public places while others meet in member’s homes. Bees
may have limited membership because of space. If you are interested in joining a bee or
forming a new Bee, please let me know and I will work with you.
