George Milton - an intelligent but uneducated man, looks after Lennie
Lennie Small - a bulky, strong man but mentally disabled, loves rabbits
Candy - an old man who lost his hand, loves his old dog
Curley - the boss’ son, small and mean, hates big guys
Curley’s wife - pretty, dreams of being an actress, doesn’t love her husband
Slim - a tall skinner, leads the grain team
Carlson - a big ranch worker who can’t stand the smell of Candy’s dog
Whit - a young ranch worker, reads the papers and plays cards
Crooks - a physically disabled Afro-American stable buck
Boss - runs the ranch, tough but tries to be nice (Maike is also the narrator)
N.B. We have decided to retain the politically incorrect term “nigger” since it is the one used by
Steinbeck and most of his contemporaries. We hope nobody will be offended…
