Addendum #2 Text - City of Kitchener

ADDENDUM #2
March 18, 2014
General Questions, Clarifications & Approved Equals
1. Question: What is the total length of fencing that will need to be taken care of /
removed upon completion of the project?
Response: Approximate quantities are: 500 linear meters of Siltation Control fencing
and 1130 linear meters of Tree Protection Fencing. Refer to drawing LS-100
Preparation & Erosion Plan for layout and construction details.
2. Question: Is there any further detail you can provide on the trimmed logs for the mulch
trail? We would like to know the material? How are they secured to the sub grade?
Response: Trimmed logs will be supplied on site. Materials are from Pine and Spruce
removals on site; diameter is similar to remaining trees. Per detail 5/LD-500, logs are to
be placed along edge of trail and must be buried 1/3 to 1/2 into existing soils. Soil may
be compacted along edges of logs if large roots impede this minor excavation. This is a
provisional item only and will not affect the bid price evaluation.
3. Question: Please confirm seeding application, notes on drawing legend indicate
Terraseeding, however the bid form and specifications call for Hydroseeding.
Response: All seeding is to be Hydroseeding. Refer to specification 32 92 19.16
included with this addendum.
(Waterline and Related Items)
4. Question: Can you provide a drawing and specs for section 5.2 regarding the
waterline? What kind of pressure requirements, connections, type of piping, etc.?
Response: All 50mm (2”) waterlines to be PVC or approved equivalent, minimum
40psi, 40 gal per minute, minimum depth 1.5m as noted per bid form line item 5.2. Refer
to OPSD 1104.020 Water Service Connection.
5. Question: Can you provide a drawing for section 5.3 hose bibs and 5.4 shut off valves?
What kind of pressure requirements, type of connections, posts etc.?
Response: Hose bibs to match existing on site. Contractor is responsible to inspect
units on site and will be required to provide a shop drawing for approval by the cemetery
operations manager. Minimum 40psi, 40 gal per minute to be met through a pump
station, refer to revised Bid Form, Item 8.2.
6. Clarification: Pressure testing of waterlines will not be required. Testing has been
completed and there is not enough pressure to sustain the hose bibs. An allowance has
been provided for possible pump house/booster pump, including electrical connection,
water connection to existing system, and any engineered shop drawings required. Refer
to revised Bid Form, Item 8.2.
(Retaining Walls and Related Items)
7. Question: There is a possible inconsistency between the form of tender and the
drawings. Item 2.2 on the Form of Tender states a single row of stones around pond for
613 lm. Drawing Number LG-215 states "Supply & Install 106 lm...per detail 7/LD-500"
around the pond. The detail says stacked rows, the form of tender calls for a single row.
Please clarify items 2.2 and 2.3 and let us know where the stacked armour stone and
single row armour stone are to be placed and what the estimated length is of each.
Response: Item 2.2 is a 600mm tall above grade row of stones associated with the
terraced walls and should not refer to the pond location. Item 2.3 is intended for the
pond stone wall and the quantity represents the total length of the wall. Refer to revised
Bid Form, Item 2.2 for text correction.
8. Question: Can you provide more information, drawings and specs for the provisional
item 9.1 regarding the wood safety barrier fence?
Response: See attached detail 1/AD for pricing this provisional item. The Contractor is
to anticipate the submission of a revised shop drawing and updated pricing (if required) if
this provisional item is awarded.
9. Question: It has been our experience and we have contacted several Armour Stone
Suppliers and have received the same feedback from each of them. They are telling us
that installing the stone 900mm high x 600mm deep has two issues. 1) There could be
a problem with stability in the wall. 2) The stones are not available in this size. To get a
900 mm high stone, it would have to be 900 - 1200mm deep, therefore increasing the
cost of the stone tremendously, or causing an issue when installed as there may not be
enough space for future burial sites. The 600mm x 600mm stone is not a problem. If
you agree can an addendum be issued to allow the wall to be built differently?
Response: All armourstone units to be priced as a maximum size of 600mm x 600mm.
For detail 6/LD-500, a double row of stones may be used provided Contractor submits
Engineered stamped shop drawings detailing batter and other structural components.
For Detail 7/LD-500, all stones may be 600mm x 600mm and Contractor to submit
Engineered shop drawings as noted.
10. Question: Approved equal request has been issued for Stone Strong System for the
armourstone retaining walls – Bid Form Items 2.2 and 2.3.
Response: The design, supply and installation of the Stone Strong System walls,
Fractured Ledge finish with coping cap (2’ width), no concrete stain, including
engineered shop drawings is approved for this site as an optional provisional alternate.
All Contractors to price armorstone walls as well as this product if desired. Pricing of this
