Dramatic exposition – the author telling you background information about characters or setting that will help you understand the play Stage directions – description of setting so that when the play is being performed, the producer/ director knows what the stage (set) should look like for each act and or/scene Direct characterization – an author directly states character traits or attributes Indirect characterization – developing a character through the character’s speech, thoughts, actions, physical description, or reactions of other characters Dynamic character – a character who transforms or changes Static character – a character who stays the same
