What does the Church say about
Mary’s role in the Church?
May 14, 2017
Que dice la iglesia sobre
El papel de María en la iglesia?
Mary’s main title is ‘Mother of God.’
Since Mary is the mother of the Person
who is Jesus, and he has two natures,
Mary is his (the person who is Jesus)
mother, and he happens to be both
divine and human. So if she is his mother, she must
be Mother of God, for Jesus is God, and Mother of
Jesus the man.
Another important fact about Mary is her sinless
condition. She is the perfect human creation. She
only has one nature, human. Because of her unique
place among all of us human beings, she is able to
be our most worthy intercessor with her Son. Many
titles of Our Lady have to do with seeing her in this
role: Mary, Help of Christians, of Perpetual Help, of
Good Counsel, Most sorrowful, Seat of Wisdom, Lady
of Grace, or just Notre Dame.
Over the centuries many words have been used to
highlight her purity, or her love for us her children, or
to show honor to her son by praising what God did in
creating Mary, that she is the epidemy of all creation:
Most Holy, Queen of heaven and earth, of martyrs, of
Peace, of Victory.
Sometime gaze at the stained glass windows in the
transepts of our church, and reflect on the meaning
of the many titles of our lady recounted there. During
this month of May, take some time to ask her
intercession. And I suggest talking to her as you
would your own mother, from your heart, and from
your need, and from your trusting love. She will help
to bring you closer to her Son, for that is why He
gave her to us.
Título principal de María es "Madre de
Dios."
Happy Mother’s Day.

the Protection of Children and Young People. The
Archdiocese has made an ongoing commitment over
the past 15 years to implement the Charter by providing
education and tools to help protect children and young
people from child sexual abuse and other threats to
their safety. Since 2002, the Archdiocese has trained
300,000 adults and more than 1.4 million children. For

LET US PRAY…
Everyone is welcome and
encouraged to list the
names of anyone ill or
deceased, for whom you
desire prayer for one week,
in our Shared Book of
Prayers. You will find this book for intentions on a stand or
table in front of the ambo (pulpit). At each Mass during the
week all names listed will be remembered at the time of
intercessions. If for any reason you are unable to write your
intentions in the book, you may call the parish office and a
staff person will be happy to do it for you.
Contact our Prayer Tree with
requests for your family or
friends are sick or recently
passed away.
When we receive these requests,
we send them along to our prayer
tree and these parishioners include
the requests in their daily prayers.
The email addresses are safe and
not shared. If you are interested in

Happy Mother’s Day
to all of our dedicated mothers.
Our school children recently celebrated the Feast Day of
Our Mother of Good Counsel and created posters with
their school buddies with all of the reasons they love
Our Blessed Mother. Today celebrates all those
providing support and comfort.
Our 2nd graders participated in the Sacrament of First
Holy Communion yesterday. As a Catholic community,
it is our responsibility to help our students grow in their
faith life and relationship with Jesus. The second grade
at OMGC is truly a remarkable year – experiencing two
Sacraments for the first time and celebrating their faith
and love of Jesus. They are remarkable and spirited
young Catholics and shine a light on the future of the
Catholic Church.

WHY IT IS IMPORTANT TO OFFICIALLY REGISTER
IN THE PARISH YOU ATTEND
1.) RESIDE WITHIN THE PARISH BOUNDARIES.
This determines which parish to call if a priest is needed in an
emergency
and in which parish marriage documentation is to be prepared.
2.) FORMALLY REGISTER BY SUBMITTING A REGISTRATION FORM
This is necessary for anyone 18 or older in order to marry at a
parish, be a godparent or sponsor for a sacrament, request a letter
of verification for contributions and/or participation. This is also
required for anyone living outside of the parish boundaries to be
considered a parishioner.
Registration forms are available from the parish website:
www.omgc.org (click “Join” at the top of page) or parish office.
Please include in your prayers this
month our Augustinian seminarian
Bro. Arturo Renteria

add these people to our daily prayer intentions. When a
name is removed from the bulletin list, we do not stop
praying for them, but we shorten the list for the most
immediate critical needs. If the person’s condition changes,
please notify the parish office again. To request prayer for
