HEALTH CONSIDERATIONS
Although Arts in The Sierras is not
meant to be excessively strenuous, it
may be taxing for those with medical
limitations. Please be aware that Camp
Sacramento has an elevation of 6,500
feet and is not recommended for
campers with health issues affected by
high elevation and uneven terrain. No
medical personnel will be on site.
There is a nurse “on call’ during the
week. If a camper decides to leave
camp for any non-emergency reason
(e.g. minor injury/illness, cold
weather), he or she will be
responsible for making arrangements
for transportation home. No refunds
will be given in these situations. In
medical emergencies, camp staff will
arrange for transportation to a local
medical facility and all costs will be the
responsibility of the camper.
SPECIAL DIETS
Several options are available for each
meal served at Camp Sacramento, including vegetarian. Special diets can
also be accommodated, provided we
receive the request at least two weeks
prior to camp.
Arts in The Sierras “Meet &
Greet” Information Session
A pre-camp “ Meet & Greet” is scheduled for Saturday, July 16, 2016, from
2:00pm-3:30pm. It will be held at the
Ethel Hart Senior Center
in Sacramento. Come meet other
campers and the teaching artists, who
will tell about the art workshops they
have planned for you. You’ll
enroll in specific workshops and
receive information packets on “out-of
-camp adventures” so you can start
planning your week at camp.

To begin the registration process for
the Arts in The Sierras, simply contact
the 50+ Wellness Program Coordinator

for availability of cabins. A $20, per
person, non-refundable down payment
is required to secure a cabin reservation. Your registration will be processed within 48 hours of receipt and
you will receive a confirmation letter
or call with your cabin assignment,
balance due, a timeline for payments,
as well as other camp preparations.

(determined by mailing address) receive a $20 per person discount on
their camp fees.
Your Arts in The Sierras registration fee
includes 5 days/4 nights at camp,
meals, nature walks and many in-camp
activities, social events and all the fresh
air you can take in!
Fees for arts workshops range from
$10 - $15 for each 2-hour session and
include supplies. Payment will be taken
at the July 16th “Meet & Greet” Information Session. Campers may enroll in
as many workshops or as few workshops as they are interested in.

itineraries for “out-of-camp adventures” will
be provided.
Art Workshops
Here’s a sample of offered workshops:
Nature In Ink Resist
Participants will work with oil pastels and/or
wax crayons on watercolor paper to sketch a
scene and learn how to abstract the forms
and colors found in nature. The sketch is then
coated with ink and scraped to reveal
brilliant colors.

Have you ever seen a picture or painting and
thought to yourself “I wish I had the talent to
do that.” We have the place for you! Come
join us for Arts in The Sierras Senior Camp at
Camp Sacramento. Arts in The Sierras is your
chance to get away and discover your
creative side. We’ll offer a wide range of
workshop opportunities to explore the many
facets of the “arts” through painting,
drawing, photography and so much more.
Whether you are an experienced artist or an
artist in the making, we have something for
you. With our experienced art instructors
and variety of activities, this is sure to be a
great week for everyone 50+!
Camp Sacramento is in the Eldorado National
Forest along Highway 50, just 18 miles west
of Lake Tahoe. At an elevation of 6,500 feet,
the tall pines, clear blue sky and meandering
river provide a scenic setting that offers a
wonderful way to relax in the mountains.
While some campers want to fit in as many
activities as possible each day, some come for
the simple pleasure of enjoying naps on the
patio, reading and visiting in a relaxed
setting, playing games or working on
independent projects. The point is, you can do
as much or as little as you like!
Fusing Fun
Participants will design a glass necklace that
will be fused into a unique piece of wearable
“art.”

Drawing Nature with Ink
Participants will explore sketching and
drawing (with ink, sticks, brushes and other
found objects) things they find of interest in
their surroundings. After creating a
thumbnail sketch, participants will make a
drawing while learning how to work with ink
and washes.

Nature in Collage
Participants will explore nature through
several collage options. Each participant will
collaboratively create separate images that
may be collaged with found nature objects
and papers.

Mosaic Mania
Participants will design a mosaic which can
be worn as a necklace or a made into a
hanging window decoration.

Drawing Nature Close Up
Participants will closely examine an element
in nature (leaf, bark, insect, ground, etc.) and
learn how to draw this element using
Graphite (pencil).

Exploring Nature Through Textiles
Participants will explore nature while using
various threads, fabrics and found nature
items to complete a stitched piece that will be
suitable for hanging and/or framing.

The Beauty of Nature Photography
Regardless of the camera used (including cell
phone cameras), participants will take their
nature photography skills to a new level in
this workshop where we’ll use the beautiful
forest around camp as our backdrop.
Scratchboard Art
Using a photograph as a template, participants will scratch an ink covered clayboard to
create a beautiful image.

Art workshops will be offered throughout the
week. For those who prefer to limit the number of art workshops they participate in, there
will be plenty of opportunities for having a
traditional camp experience or even heading
Accommodations
Rustic wood cabins each have overhead
electric lighting and are furnished with at
least one double and one single bed. Bedding
or linens are not provided. Although cabins
are not heated, campers stay comfortable
even if temperatures drop into the 40’s, as
long as plenty of warm clothing and bedding
are packed for the trip. Cabins do not have
running water. Modern lavatory buildings
provide showers with plenty of hot water and
wall outlets for electric razors and hair
dryers. Cabins are 25-100 feet from
bathroom facilities.
