Special thanks to our Montclair PTAs, PTA Presidents and PTA Council
for their support and assistance.
Dear Dancin’ Friends,
A big thank you! MFEE makes a difference to hundreds
of teachers and thousands of Montclair Public School
students and their families.
We are entirely funded by donations. And your support
is most necessary and appreciated. Thank you to Lois
Whipple and Robin Schlager, our tireless and devoted
staff, the event committee, and special thanks to Susan
Brady for the wonderful auction.
Most important, let’s all thank the great teachers, faculty and staff of the Montclair Public Schools who work
together to continue to bring out the best in our students,
schools and the community.
15 YEARS OF BRINGING OUT THE BEST
IN MONTCLAIR PUBLIC SCHOOLS
On behalf of our event Chair Bobbi Brown and the MFEE Board of Directors, we’re writing to thank you for coming out for Dancin’ in the Streets to
celebrate the 15th anniversary of The Montclair Fund for Educational Excellence (MFEE).
Our schools are a national model for high-quality, racially diverse public
education. As a supporter, you are investing in the future role of MFEE, as
we work to keep Montclair amongst the highest performing school districts
in the nation. With the proceeds of this event, we will be able to offer each
of the school principals an MFEE Magnet school grant for a “center of excellence” building upon previous MFEE funding; as well as partnering with
the District on a number of new initiatives including a Strings Program, on
line reference E-Book Library, dedication of the Furlong Field house, China
Initiative, Planetarium Enhancement, Little Theatre Renovation amongst
others.
Each year Montclair Public School students, faculty and families benefit
from our work. MFEE strives to enable each student, from kindergarten
to high school, to excel and fulfill their potential by providing hundreds of
teacher grants for classroom and curriculum innovation, professional development and student well-being. To help ensure a level playing field, MFEE
created an Equity Scholars Fund. MFEE also convenes school-community
initiatives together with the Superintendent of Schools, bringing community
resources and funding to support educational excellence. These initiatives have brought about the renovation of the Woodman field house, the
creation of the MFEE/Laraja Art Gallery @ MHS, revitalized school libraries,
supported the IMANI College Advocacy center and built the Greenwald
Challenge Course.
Hundreds of individual donors form the backbone of support for MFEE
projects, augmented by generous family trusts and local foundations. This
diverse and deep support is emblematic of the regard and care with which
the Montclair community views their extraordinary schools, while at the
same time recognizing the need to continually improve and respond to new
challenges and opportunities.
So, please keep on Dancin’.

Tonight’s Live Auction will be conducted by John W. Terrio, President and
principal Auctioneer of Auction Knights. John has been performing to audiences in the Charity and Benefit auction industry for 20 years, assisting in
raising millions of dollars for some of the nation’s largest non-profit organizations, including The Make-A-Wish Foundation, The American Cancer
Society and The American Red Cross.
CONDITIONS OF SALE
• All auction transactions are final. There can be no refunds or exchanges
of items in any category.
• All items have been donated to MFEE and are sold by it, not the donor.
Please do not request refunds or exchanges from donors.
• Please read carefully the restrictions and specifications on the individual
donations outlined in this program.
• All items are sold “as is” and “with all faults” conditions. MFEE makes
no warranties or representations, whatsoever as to the correctness of descriptions, dollar value estimates, genuineness, or conditions of any item.
In no event shall the MFEE or anyone acting on its behalf be liable for any
occurrences arising out of the use of these goods and services.
• All payments must be made in full at the conclusion of the auction, payable by credit card (Visa/MasterCard), cash, or check made out to MFEE.
• Unless otherwise specified, all items and services must be used within
one year from Friday, May 30, 2008. The dates and times of mutual
agreed upon items by the donor and successful bidder should be arranged between those parties within 30 days of the auction.
• Removal of all items is required on Friday, May 30, 2008 for the silent
and live auctions.
LIVE AUCTION GUIDELINES
• A family paddle number will be assigned to all attendees. The number
is to be used for all bidding. The number can be found on the back of
your program.
• A live auction bid is entered by raising your numbered paddle and being
recognized by the auctioneer.
• The auctioneer has the right to determine increments on each item. Any
item not sold at a satisfactory price may be withdrawn at the option of the
auctioneer.
• The highest bidder acknowledged by the auctioneer shall be the purchaser. In the event of any dispute between bidders, the auctioneer shall
have sole and final discretion to determine the successful bidder.
• The title to each article passes to the highest bidder upon declaration by
the auctioneer that the lot is sold.
SILENT AUCTION RULES
• A silent auction bid is entered by writing your paddle number and
amount of the bid on the bid sheet for each item. Each valid increase
in bid must equal or exceed the minimum increase figure stated on the
individual bid sheet. The Auction Committee reserves the sole right to
determine the minimum raise.
• At 15 minutes prior to the closing of the Silent Auction, guests will be
notified by public announcements.
• The highest bidder wins the item. In the event that two (or more) bidders
are in the process of bidding on the same item when the auction ends, the
bidders will be permitted to submit one written and sealed final bid at such
time to the “Finance Chair”, who will bring sealed envelopes to Finance
for processing.
TAX INFORMATION
• The donor’s estimated value for each live and silent auction item is listed
in the program. The amount of your contribution that is tax deductible
for federal income tax purposes is limited to the difference between the
donor’s estimated value and what you paid. Acknowledgements substantiating your payment will be sent to you. If you should pay less for an item
than the donor’s estimated value, your purchase does not constitute a
tax-deductible contribution.
Please consult with your tax advisor to determine the full extent of your tax
deduction.

Summer Scholarship Program
Research shows:
•
Access to supplemental educational opportunities is a key variable in uneven student achievement.
•
Students experience significant learning losses during the summer break from school, and that the
magnitude of these losses varies by family income.
•
Many low-income children fall behind in school because they don't get to practice reading and math
between June and September.
The MFEE Summer Scholarship Program evens
the playing field by enabling low-income children
to attend Montclair Public school-based summer
academic and enrichment programs.
Last summer, 112 students from Montclair families
living at or below the federal poverty level attended
37 academically-oriented summer programs offered
by Montclair Public Schools thanks to the MFEE
Summer Scholarship Program.
How can you help?
As summer approaches, we ask you to help
low-income children in our community spend
their summers productively by donating to the
MFEE Summer Scholarship Program. Although
actual tuition is higher, the cost to MFEE is $150
per child. The more you give, the more students
we can help prevent from falling behind in school.
Please see the reverse of this card to make your
contribution.
