(Revised February 2015) 6 Coaching Coaching sessions take place throughout the year for juniors to improve their techniques, working through the Golf Foundation’s “Junior Golf Passport”. Please see the last page of the handbook. The Junior Golf Passport allows juniors, parents and coaches to view and input progress in all areas of the game using the progress chart within the passport provided. Different tasks will be completed each week in the following areas: o Putting o Short game o Swing o On the course o Prepare for golf o Fit for golf o Skills for life Information about the passport can be found at www.juniorgolfpassport.org/ Dates for group coaching will be communicated on the Junior noticeboard, located in the Junior Room and via email. Obtaining a Handicap Once the PGA Professional feels that the right skills have been taken on board, it is time to put what you have learnt onto the golf course, with an adult. Starting from the Blue Junior Tees, mark three cards of 18 holes, or 6 cards of 9 holes (3 for the front 9 and 3 for the back 9). Make sure that you have written ‘Handicap’ at the top of each card and are playing with someone who has a handicap who can mark your card. Place these cards in the ‘handicap’ box in the men’s/ladies locker room. The handicap secretary will then review the cards and issue a handicap. This then means that they can play in Junior Competitions. Junior Handicaps Junior handicaps will be administered following the CONGU rules. Juniors whose ability precludes them from achieving a full CONGU handicap (28 Boys & 36 Girls) will be given a Club handicap (up to 54). Details can be found on the CONGU web site. http://www.congu.com/Junior.htm Junior Competitions All Juniors must hold an official club handicap to enter. o Entry is done via the online booking system BRS either by using your BRS log in at home, calling the pro shop or using the competition computer in the locker room. Competition times are released two weeks in advance. o Juniors turning up on the day will only be able to play subject to spaces. o Entry fees must be paid before play; this is done when signing in on the computer. o Scorecards must be placed in the competition box at the end of play once scores have been entered into the computer. o Any Junior failing to return his or her scorecard will receive a two competition ban. Junior Stableford and Medal competitions will all have 1st and 2nd prizes for the following mixed categories: 1. CONGU handicaps (28 and below for Boys, 36 and below for Girls) 2. Non-CONGU ("Club") handicaps (28 and above for Boys, 36 and above for Girls) Boys who are under 14 and have a handicap of 28 or above will be permitted to play from the Yellow tees. Please check on the day regards this. o The Royal and Ancient Rules of Golf are used. 7 Play the Game Know the Score Mark Your Card Don’t despair, you’ll soon get the hang of marking a card. Simply fill in the top section – Name, date, handicap, strokes received and then exchange cards with your playing partner. They mark your score and you mark theirs. You mark your score in the markers column. At the end of the round, compare the scores you have marked with your playing partner, they should match.
