Find Turkey’s Feathers ? A Thanksgiving Math Game by Stephanie Trapp for Hip Homeschool Moms Find Turkey’s Feathers Game Directions wPreK-K (without the game board) 1. 2. 3. 4. Print out the turkey. Cut a slit around the top of the turkey so the feathers can be inserted into it. Print and cut out the feathers.* Hide the feathers around the room or house. Have students search for the feathers. As they find the feathers, they slide them into the slit on the turkey’s back. After all the feathers are found, have students: • count the total amount of feathers. • remove the feathers from the turkey, sort them by color, and count how many feathers of each color. • answer questions like “What color feather do you have the most?” or “What color feather do you have the least?” wK-2 Students will need a die and game board markers to play the game. 1. Print out the game board and the turkey. Cut a slit around the top of the turkey so the feathers can be inserted into it. 2. Print and cut out the feathers.* 3. To play: • Students place their game board pieces on “Start”. • One student rolls the die and moves that many spaces. They collect one feather of the color they land on and place the feather on the turkey. (To increase difficulty, the number they roll can be the amount of spaces they move and the amount of feathers they collect. This version will require a lot more feathers.) • Students take turns rolling, moving around the game board, and collecting feathers. The game is over when both players reach the “End”. • The winner is the student with the most feathers. • After the game, students fill in the graph and answer questions using the feathers collected in the game. w3-5 Students follow the same game rules as stated in the K-2 directions. After the game, students answer the follow up questions in fractions or percents. *To save ink, print out the blank feather template onto colored cardstock paper.
