Chapter 7

Chapter 8
1. Throughout this chapter, pay attention to Steinbeck’s message about loneliness. Then explain
what Steinbeck is trying to say about loneliness, using specific evidence/quotes from the chapter
to support your assertion. For example, use what is happening to Muley Graves as he continues
to be alone.
2. Steinbeck describes Jim Casy on page 93 (in my book) by stating “the light of the coming
morning made his forehead seem to shine.” Describe what you envision, and why Steinbeck
described Casy in this way.
3. Characterize Ma, including what her role is within the family. Use evidence from the chapter to
