2017-2018 All-Star Competition Cheer Information Thank you for your interest in Jaxco Elite Gym’s All-Star competition cheer! Our goal for this program is to develop skills, build friendships, and have fun. This letter contains information about the All-Star program. Our season will begin on June 5h for the Eclipse and Silver squads and on July 13th for the Jam squad. The Twilight squad will begin later in the season. The season will end for all squads in April. Jaxco will be closed July 3rd – 7th for the July 4th holiday and our summer break. Attendance will not be strongly enforced for the month of July due to family vacations, etc. However, we do ask that you try to schedule vacations around our practices if possible. All tuition and fees will still be due for July! Uniform fittings DO require attendance, and a parent must be present. Starting July 31st (first week of August), attendance at all practices (cheer and tumbling) will be mandatory. This policy will be enforced this year!! The 2017-2018 Jaxco All-Star Cheer teams and practices are tentatively planned as follows: Eclipse: Senior Level 2 Ages 11-18 (as of August 31st) Requirement: Back Handspring (or close) Practice (3-1/2 hrs/week w/ tumbling): Mon 7:00 – 8:30, Tues 6:00 – 8:00 Coach: David; Assistant: Michelle Silver: Junior Prep Level 2 Ages 8-14 (as of August 31st) Requirement: Back Handspring (or close) Practice (2-1/2 hrs/week w/ tumbling): Mon 5:00 – 6:00, Wed 5:00 – 6:30 Coach: Heather; Assistant: David Jam: Youth Prep Level 1 Ages 6-11 (as of August 31st) Requirement: Walkover preferred, not required Practice (2-1/2 hrs/week w/ tumbling): Tues 4:00 – 5:00, Thurs 4:00 – 5:30 Coach: Robin; Assistant: Kayla, Brynlee Twilight: Tiny Pre Team Exhibition Ages 3-6 (as of August 31st) Requirement: None Practice: Thurs @ 4:00 – 5:00 Tumbling: Will be placed in appropriate class Coach: Kayla; Assistant: Kala, Hannah The months of June and July will be our “boot camp” months, which will be spent working on skills including dance, tumbling, cheer technique, jumps, motions, stunting, and pyramids. All teams will incorporate tumbling into their practices for the entire season. However, an all-star athlete may enroll in an additional tumbling class at the “3rd class rate.” Starting in August, we will begin teaching the choreography for the competition routines. Once the learning of choreographed material begins, all practices will be mandatory. All teams, EXCEPT the Twilight team, will compete in six competitions. The Twilight team will perform at four or five competitions. All competitions will be three hours or less travel. All competitions will take place on either a Saturday or Sunday (or both). The tentative schedule of competitions is listed below. Since we serve several school districts, we will not follow the holiday calendar of any certain one. However, we will observe the holidays listed in the important dates below. Please note this list is tentative. Since many months have five weeks, there will be no reduction in tuition due to holiday closures. We will not be holding formal tryouts this season, but will be doing informal evaluations. For the month of May, we are offering two All-Star Competition Skills classes. Monday at 5:30 p.m. will be for those interested in Levels 1 & 2. Wednesdays at 7:00 p.m. will be for those interested in Level 3. These classes are not mandatory, but the coaches will be using them to select competition team members, as team sizes will be limited this year. These classes will consist of stunting, jumps, and some tumbling, but they are not tumbling classes. For athletes interested in flying or basing next year, this is the opportunity to receive instruction and show the coaches their potential. If your child is interested in joining us for the 2017-2018 season, then please come by our office to complete a “notice of intent” form, so we can schedule an evaluation and/or enroll him or her in a competition skills class. The form will allow you to list your 1st and 2nd team choices. We look forward to working with each of you and your athlete. It’s going to be a great year with lots of fun and skill development.
