The Crow and The Water Jug
On a hot summer day, a very thirsty crow flew past a water jug. "Aah! My throat is
parched! How lovely it would be to have a drink of water!"
He perched atop the top of water jug. Eagerly, he placed his beak into the opening.
Not knowing the water level was low, he kept trying to reach with his small beak.
Frustrated, the crow could not get a drink.
He tried to reach farther in, flapping his wings and stretching his neck. Alas, he still
could not get one single drop of water to drink!
"Oh! I know what to do! I will tip the jug over and drink that way!" cawed the crow.
The crow pushed and pushed with all his muscle. He could not push the heavy jug
over.
Ready to give up, the crow slouched against the water jug. He swiped a wing in
desperation-and had a brilliant thought.
The crow bent down and gently picked up a pebble with his short beak. He dropped
the pebble into the water jug-plop! He found anothe pebble and plop! One by one, the
crow continued to drop pebbles into the water jug-plop! plop! plop!
The crow saw, to his utter delight, that the water level was creeping up-rising until just
at the top.
Cawing with glee, the crow eagerly enjoyed every drop of water!
Moral: Most things are better done bit by bit-and things that can't be done by mere
strength along are often done by wit.
